I just heard about this:
AUGUST 27, 2002 -- BETHEL, CT (BRAIN)--After nine years sponsoring one of the mountain biking's biggest teams, Volvo and Cannondale will no longer sponsor the Volvo/Cannondale Mountain Bike Team for the 2003 season. The companies said they will explore other cycling partnerships in the future.
"It has been a fantastic run," said Scott Montgomery, Cannondale's vice president of marketing. "We have accomplished everything we set out to do and more. Now it's time to move on to other projects and new challenges."
During its nine-year run the Volvo/Cannondale racked up a list of victories including nine World Championships, 14 World Cup overall titles, 85 World Cup victories, two Olympic medals, two Pan Am Games gold medals and numerous national championships.
Cannondale will continue to sponsor the SoBe/Cannondale team in 2003 and is considering other sponsorship opportunities.
"We're committed to supporting the sport," Montgomery said.
