When I ride several days in a row my thumbs get pretty sore from pushing against my rapidfire shifters, especially downshifting with the right. Has anyone else had this experience...and any ways of avoiding it? Thanks in advance for any advice.

My wife's thumbs hurt so much with Sh*tmano that I switched her to Sram twist shifters. The culprit was the front derailleur spring which was super stiff and tough on the thumb.

Something you might try first is installing new cable housing since this is a common source of friction.

Even slicker are Gore-Tex cables which, since they're sealed, never gum or ice up.

Good luck,

I'm in the same boat after buying a new bike with rapidfire. I trashed my right thumb repeatedly from ski injuries over the past few years and after just a few hours my thumbs ar sore. I'm going back to gripshift. I prefer the adjustability of sram on the front deraileur anyhow. Next to new 9spd rapidfire shifters for sale.

I used to get that problem a lot, especially in the cold. I just bought thicker gloves. The only problem with that is my hands sweat to much.

This is an odd topic, my legs get sore or my arms get sore or me feet get sore, all LONG before my thumbs to, maybe i type to much? I switched to shimano from grip shift, and I LOVE EM, I'd never go back.

Grip-shift, Rapid-fire, stop being a puss and throw them all away. Go SingleSpeed, stop complaining and ride!

Then you can whine about your knees, upperbody and back ;)
