Greetings from Mt. Agamenticus in York Maine! Can anybody up North suggest any good logging roads or trails that you can load up a B.O.B trailer and go camping for a couple nights? A bunch of did it one fall around Grafton Notch and it was a blast! Trails were a little too easy after we set up camp. On the flipside this Spring we started on the HighWater Trail in the "Whites" and went up to Baldface. That was a little too much Hike & Bike even with ultralight camping gear.

Try camping @ Papoose pond on rte 118 between Norway and E Waterford. From here you could ride up Hunts corner road (paved) to Hutchinson pond and ride the old Bethel road. (Known as the Mt Abraham valley in "Mountain Bike! Maine) It's an out-n-back, but aprox 10-11 miles each way not counting the pavement to get you there. Primarily a doubletrack trail, but many fun sections. Side trips also possible. Pretty close to the Waterford ride off of Plummer Hill rd as well.
If you like riding old logging roads, (basically the trails are part of the snowmobile trail system) there are a couple campsites on the beach at the end of Virginia Lake. It's part of the wmf, so a reservation may be needed. (Not far off of rte 5 in Stoneham) The scenery here alone is worth riding. From the campsite you can ride the Albany mtn / crocker pond trail, Evergreen valley, Cold river valley, and of course Virginia lake loop. My family has a camp on the next lake over (Keewaydin) and I ride near Virginia lake all the time. ;D
I agree with your assesment of the Highwater trail, to many hike a bike sections. If a trail care day or whatever built some short bridges over the washed out sections it would be a nice run of singletrack. Still pretty good though. Rode there last sat. (8/17) and the Wild is dry as a bone. Fording is not an issue.
