This happened a while ago... and they're no longer there... but we were out for a nice jaunt in Lynn Woods when we came down a fairly gnarly trail to find a jug of brains hanging by the side of the trail!
Bizarre!
What's been the strangest thing you've seen while riding in the woods?

I could tell a horror story about some "stuff" I came across in the woods of the Fells years ago, but I'll refrain. I'm still scarred emotionally from that one ;)

On the deep side of Nepaug State Forest (New Hartford, CT) there is continual evidence of wiccan or santanical activity (smudge pots, candles, coven marks). A friend, previously a supervisor of the area, confirmed this. To date, they have not been caught in the act.
No wonder. The place has historically been called Satan's Kingdom.

:o OH My! Nice picture though! Kind of reminds me of the movie "Blair Witch Project" LOL! The only thing I have found in the woods was a cut off dear head! It was not hunting season either. Myself and friends found the head in the middle of August last year! I was not impressed at all. My ride was ruined and I turned around and went HOME!!! My friends stayed however and enjoyed the ride. I was told I missed out on a lot of fun!!! :-[

A couple of winters back I was cruising thru the trails in Arcadia (home of the old Reapers Revenge) and came upon a whole pile of deer entrails right in the middle of the trail. Just had to bunny hop em! Seen lots of other strange stuff: assorted undergarments, old furniture, assorted dead varmits, old copies of playboy etc. ;D

I was riding at Foxboro one day last year and turned a corner upon a strange looking, fully bearded man (about mid 40s) and much younger man (18-21?) quickly emerging from a side trail . They both had looks of surprise and guilt on their faces. :o :-\
I was like, hmmm. ???
Hey, whatever, right? I'm just glad I didn't happen upon them 10 minutes earlier. I'm told this is a much more common occurance at Blue Hills.

Hey, SquishedFish, your post suggests that Wiccans are satanic which is false. I don't agree with anyone leaving trash behind them in the woods, but I find nothing else wrong with people worshiping in the woods.

All of you who bike at Cutler park know of the naked man. If you don't, there is a naked hippie who lives in cutler park.

*agrees with hmstrwheel* ;D MM!
As far as seeing weird stuff out there, we went riding at Big River a few weeks ago and somebody had done up a part of the trail for Halloween already. They'd hung rubber snakes, bats, ghosties, Scream masks, all kinds of stuff on both sides of the trail... It was pretty darn effective, that close to sunset.....
We also found a fireplace & chimney out on a trail next to Wood River the other day. Nothing that looked remotely like a driveway to lead to it, just some bike paths and a sand pit...
And a giant nature preserve out on abandoned United Nuclear land. Didn't see any mutated vegetation or animals though.

I've seen lots of weird stuff over the years. Assorted naked people, weirdos sniffing spray paint, a lady taking a crap in the middle of the trail (not a pretty sight). Recently I was riding near my house in the Stow town forest and a pig ran down the trail in front of me. Yep a pig. There is a farm near the entrance to the forest so went there to ask the people if they were missing a pig, they were not but they offered me $10 if I brought it to them. Later that day I was telling a neighbor of mine about the pig and he told me there were signs on the other side of town regarding a lost pig. So naturally I needed to investigate. It seems that one of the apple orchards in town had set up a petting zoo and there were 2 little piglets delivered. The pigs obviously didn’t like their surroundings because they both broke out on the first day. One pig was quickly retuned after going to the local golf course for a quick 18 holes, the other pig has remained more elusive. There have been multiple sightings of the missing pig but he remains on the loose. The renegade pig is more than 2 miles from his original home and has grown quite a bit in the 5 weeks he has been on the lamb (or is that pig). I've gone looking for him several times hoping to claim a reward of apples from the orchard. I figure if he is never caught he will grow to become a fierce wild pig and his legend will grow........ Either that or the coyotes will eat him soon.

I have no idea how I managed to be confusing. I'll admit that I don't know boo (no pun intended) about the intracacies, relationships, nor contrasts, between wiccan or satanic dogma. The operand OR should be noted. I can certainly provide demonstratable evidence by showing you the area and letting you draw you own conclusions. So far as the authorities are concerned, someone is conducting activities during a time which is in violation of pertinent access regulations and conducting activities which they feel are suspicious (minimally, these same regulations require permitting for group events.).
My posting is not intended to be offense. Only a statement of information for which I have been made privy. The simple matter that activities that some might consider to be out of the ordinary (Ok, I'll admit that I hail from a christian background. Yee gads!) make it a valid post to this thread. Also if you research the history of the specific area (remember that I mentioned its name, Satan's Kingdom?) it gives it that much more of an intriguing flair.

SquishedFish. Ok. I'm a little overly sensitive when it comes to religious concerns. ::) I also hail from a Christian background but have been a practicing neo-Pagan for about 3 years now and you'd be surprised the sort of crap we have to go through sometimes. It grates on the nerves after a while. I'd delve into great detail, but this isn't the place for it. I just wanted to clarify the terminology being used. I'm certainly not mad at you and I don't hold grudges (ok, I do hold grudges against certain NCAA basketball teams, but that's a different story). :)
