Had a good local ride last night. Did two drops that had been monkeys on my back for over a year. Thanks to the lead of a man new to long travel, they are outta the way.
Here's a pix of him on a different/smaller drop that we did. It's little but has a sketchy run up and take off. The rock you drop off is just a hair smaller then a bike length. This was his first attempt at it and he bagged it then went on to some considerably bigger stuff.
Now if he can just get rid of the old roadie wear ;)

Too bad it was "too dark" to get the pix of the bigger drops.

Yep, that's the one. The landing is sketchy as you have to land in the bushes between a rock and a hard place (a stump) . Easier then the log these days though. The entrance to that has gotten eroded.
Here's an old pix I dug up from a few years back of Narlus on the Trestle.

I think those height exagerations are a counter effect of "bike math". You know, "But honey, it's only $200 for the new shock" and then the credit card bill shows up a few weeks later with a $450 charge. ;)

Bill,
That's sick! Of course the little tiny frame and 24" wheels on the Sinister make the proportions look bigger ;)
Very nice! Maybe some day, no, wait a minute, maybe not.

Fortunately, there is one simple way to get better at it ... Assuming that's your thing. Being able to huck off the side of modeate drop or using any little old thing as a launchpad for jumping really does make a huge performance difference though. It's almost always safer to just fly over the danger rather then face it head on ;)

Thanks! I just put the finishing touches on it this morning, with the exception of the Videos section, it's finished. I included some of the pictures you shot at Lynn in the Photos page, so be sure to check them out.

Hey why is it that when your going off something 2ft it seems like a 20 ft drop and then you look back at it and say " **** that was so lame, it's only 2ft" but when your dropping off it it's like your jumping off the empire state building. I love the post about the $200 dollar shock costing $400.00
I'm in the process of pimping some money from my woman (we wouldn't have a new house if I ran the finances, it's tough explaining why I need a pair of $800.00 forks after just spending $2700.00 on a new cannondale gemeni 1000. But honey these forks are better . Yeah Ha? ;D

Here's one of a man who needs no introduction. This is the most technical thing I'd ever seen him do, until last Thursday night and after a 6 pack of suds. Then he was a hucking machine ( until he pinch platted on a little curb ;)

Jesus that other guy in the snow going down the hill is out of control. How does he do it? Jesus Christ he's sick. I'd never attempt that hill, especially in the snow. I bet he's the type of guy that likes to live on the edge. You know, the kind of guy that brings the video back to the store without rewinding it, the guy who eats an apple without washing it off. Sick stuff. Knuckle

Hey Knucklewhatever,
It's funny we never see any pics of you doing "sick" stuff....... other than pictures of what you are buying and selling.

Yea, in all honesty that drop that PK is doing in the snow has gotten way harder. It's a great launch/huck and depending how much of the tranny you hit it's anywhere from a 3' -> 7' drop. More than that and you land flat at 8'. One guy I know did it and it wasn't pretty. Bent bars, torqued wrist. Excellent video though.
The drop also looks way less vertical than it really is. The first 2' are literally straight down, then it slopes out.

I wasn't talking about the ladder, but the other pic of the guy going down the hill in the snow. That ladder looks a bit tricky. I don't know how you don't endo off the end of that :-\ I thought the idea of this particular post was a slam session about that guy doing that small jump that was made out to be like Wade Simmons, you know, a joke. Lighten up. I'm not claiming to be Cedric Gracia. Actually the biggest thing I've done is a 2ft drop, but I can't find anything good. Theres not good stunts in this state except maybee Vietnam. I don't have any pics of me doing sick ****, because I havn't been to Vietnam yet and the 20 other places I've gone is just lame ass trails. This state sucks for freeriding. I guess I got to make it to Nam, but I know as soon as I get there a week later it will be shut down. Just like my jobs. As soon as I get hired, the company gets bought out, downsized, closed. Won't be long till Nam is gone. But that's no excuse, I got's to get over there. Krankle

Can't we all just get along ;)
Yes, this thread was started sort of as a joke but also to just show your wares. Maybe I'll start another thread on pix of local huckerz.
IMHO, there is no drop that is small, if it instills fear in you when you do it. That's what it's all about, overcoming fear.
As for no "good drops" anywhere but Nam, that is 100% false. In fact, Nam has some good stuff but Lynn Woods has 4x the number of stuff and just about any place with rocks or loading docks or retaining walls has fine drops as well. If that's what you're looking for, just open your eyes. None of the stuff in these pix is at Nam. Basically any trails you find will have some sort of drops on them.
If anyone wants to go hit some drops, let me know. Doesn't have to be big or anything. I be happy to show folks around and point them to just the type of thing that's right for them.

Couch, so Lynn woods is the place to be ha? Never been there. That's probably a trek for me as I'm in Worcester, but any suggesitions on where to start over there or is it just pretty much follow the directions on nemba. I've only been to a handful of places, Franklin (totally brutal, all rocks and swamp), Foxboro (pretty good all around trail-riding), Leominster State Park (mostly boring fire roads), Rocky Woods in Medfield (If you like riding on wood chips and mulch) and a couple others I can't think of with just mainly trails. I find most of the places I've been to be very boring. Of course I base this mainly on what I see in the magazines which is all BC and Shore area riding. I just picture this awesome place in my head with fast winding singletrack, Various drops from 2ft to 20ft, see-saws, fire roads, mud, downhills. I don't even know if such a place exists, but I got to check out some of these other areas besides boring Franklin and Foxboro. I'd rather ride around my house in circles than frequent one of those spots. Knuckle
