Where are all of the Berkshire rides ? I live just north of Albany NY and joined NEMBA with the hope of going on group rides in the Berkshires. Only ride I saw was at Greylock. :-\ When I see all of the activity at other chapter areas I have to say I'm very disapointed that the Berkshire area has not had 1 paragraph all season in Singletracks. :(

Did you try pedro's-fest? You have to pay but it's definitely a nice big berkshire ride. Mary Tunnicliffe, Berkshire NEMBA's leader is one of the leaders of pedro's, so I am guessing a lot of her effort must go to that event. I reccomend contacting her about more rides. There are a lot of local rides that go off from bike shops that are not NEMBA rides. I think the arcadian shop does a ride every thursday. Search for them on google to find the website...

Had to miss Pedro's as I was on vacation. Hoping to drive out to Great Brook for the Pedro's / Nemba bash in october. ;D The rides that start at the Arcadian on thursday nights tend to be hammer rides that climb up the Yukon ridge. Nice place to ride, but a little to much climbing for my liking. I can (and have) done a loop at Kennedy, but it only takes 45 min - 1 hour. (Seems like all the group rides are beginner or hammer. Not much in between). I contacted mary via e-mail back in May and never rec'd a reply. IMHO: Seems to me the Berksire region isn't very active with Nemba compared to the others. Currently loking to change jobs, but if I don't have to move, maybe I'll have to lead some intermediate rides myself. Thinking of looking @ Beartown on sat. (8/22/02)

Steve has a point, I live in Northwestern CT and I am always interested in riding up that way. Just never see any rides for that area.
What's up with you Berkshire NEMBA FOLKS???? Anyway I would certainly be interrested in riding up there sometime. I need ride Pedros and that was a great time!!!

Steve, and anyone else who may be disappointed with the Berkshire ride scene, things will change. We are blessed with open space, the largest SF in Mass, and a generally more laid back veiw on life. Ask any one in Boston "whats in western mass?" and you usually get the reply "springfield!" yet, there's a whole other COUNTY west of springfield. Point is, we've enjoyed being forgotten about in our quiet neck of the woods, but thats not what NEMBA is about. With the help of everyone, trail advocacy, maitainence, and rides can be organized events that benefit everyone! SOOOO, as I ease my way into this organization, I'm open to any ideas and thoughts that may help and I promise I'll do my best to get this chapter active again.

I live in Northeastern CT (Mansfield) but have relatives in Albany including a brother in law that I ride with often.
The Berkshires is an ideal mid-point for us to meet, ride and go for a post-ride burger and brew(s), so please feel free to keep me posted on weekend group rides etc. etc. We recently met at the Arcadian shop and rode the Kennedy Park trails.........a blast and a half.......just wish it didn't get dark so damned early!
In turn I can relay that info to my brother in law (another Steve who rides a hardtail btw!), so perhaps you would often have two more to join the group.
I'm trying to convince him to join NEMBA even though he lives in Castleton, NY........he's close enough right!? :)

Brother Steve should definitely join!
As for rides, the season dwindles but headlights and windproof fabrics fix that. Fridays and Saturdays and Sunday mornings are ideal for me but any night starting at 6PM from the Arcadian shop is a good bet. I will certainly post any definite plans online. Lets keep rolling!

I live in Clifton Park, NY (half way between Albany and Saratoga) and I joined NEMBA. Besides, the $20 is well spent.

Shite! Steve I thought you lived in Mass........I get back to the Albany area quite often....we'll have to hook up and ride.
Where do you ride up in Clifton Park?
I've done a lot of riding in the Pine Bush and also have ridden at Grafton several times.
I'll inform my brother in law of your presence as well!
Cheers,
Mark

The only place you can ride in Clifton Park is on pavement in one of the 6,000,000+ housing developments or strip malls. :-\ Grafton is ok. I ride there about once a month. Sand bush is to easy. There used to be some decent single track there, but there's a big controversy involving hikers and an endangeded butterfly and they closed the good stuff. Most of my riding is done on some sweet tech single track near the Colonie park. I'd be happy to take you there sometime.
