Trying to round up a good solid group of folks to do some hard core Single Speed riding. OK, maybe more soft core, but what the hell. The things are a HOOT!
A few of us typically ride once a week or so. Rides tend to vary between fast technical and long epic's. I'd like to put together a repeat of last Fall's ever so popular, "Road_trip_of_the_Century", in which a few of us stupid, I mean brave, souls went up to East Burke and did all the tastiest Kingdom Trail on the one speeds. It was absolute torture but it was a mess of fun.
Let me know if you want in on some riding and we can get a mailing list together.

My SS has been collecting dust this summer. I have only put a dozen or so rides on it since I built it up. I am game for Kingdom Trails though!

Yeah, the Road_Trip_Of_The_Century was stupid but fun.
Notice the vein popping once we got to the top of Burke on our OFSs!

Philip, you have got to bring your S.S. bros to Fort Rock in Exeter NH this fall. The trails are excellent for ONE gear. Nice bridges, smooth trails, no climbs! J.Record's back sounds like it is healing, I hear he's on the road bike. It would be good to get him back out on his S.S., instead of his 13ft wheelie drop demon. I'll post some pics of my Bianchi B.U.S.S. soon. Nice work on this Forum! It is a major thread in the quilt of NEMBA! Where's the Old Coot?

I was out with the Old Coot for 5 hours today riding and arrowing the course for the Wompy ride this Sunday. Talk about a perfect place for SS!

I am in for a repeat of the Break-your-legs-with-an SS- ride in Burke area.
single speeds SUCK unless there is a lot (a LOT) of hard climbing. then you really appreciate the lack of gears to choose. everything is ridable, you just have to attack it.
Singlespeeds rule, you are always in the right gear.

It is looking like the Road Trip of the Century Deux is shaping up for 09.28.2002. If anyone is interested let me know and I will share the details.

I DO I DO-as a recent "converter" I am proud to say....I will never go back to being a geardo-plans for a more formal new rig are already in the works, currently on a 99 Cannondale CAAD 4/headshock with a singleator which works extremely well AND I've found that I am quite a bit faster than before (probably cause now the chain stays put)especially in the technical stuff. Hey-if I can do it, ANYONE can! I grew up on bmx bikes and that is the way I ride-with one gear.........hope to see more Single speeders out there soon! :o

When I was a kid, I rode a really old single speed bike that was handed down to me from my three older brothers....not even sure what kind it was because it had been painted over so many times, but it had really fat tires and a chain that was hard to repair....then I graduated up to one of my older brother's Schwinn Cruiser type bikes and that was a blast to ride. All black with the cool Schwinn logo and the bendy bars.
Would love to get that feeling of pedaling my arse off and keeping it simple and fun again!
Hopefully I can join in on some SS group rides in the future if and when I get a SS rig up and running.
