My Chris King Headset has developed a little noise (Squeek) lately. The sealed bearings in these things are supposed to be very reliable. Has anybody had any luck greasing the bearings and if so how and with what?

Check out Chrisking.com for all the tech info you will ever need on these hubs. My suggestion is this:

Call Chris King and order some of their King Lube for the bearings. They are easy to take apart and this should be done every 3 months or 500 miles at the least. More frequently now with all the dust flying around (it feels like I'm riding in Arizona lately).

The hubs are easy to take apart and the instructions should have come with the hubs when you bought them. To get them apart just use 2 5mm allen wrenches and unscrew the hubs. The inners should them pull out fairly easily. Follow the directions, clean, dry, lube and reassemble.

Good luck,

Johan

The King headset is relatively easy to service although it shouldn't need it for a few years. first get a hold of the instructions that can with the head seet, if you don't have them get them off the web site.

There is a flat circular spring ring over the bearings that needs to be removed carefully to get at the bearings, just clean them and repack them with a good waterproof bearing grease.

If there headset is not to old or dirty it's probably not the bearings bu the adjustments. I also recommend using a bearing protector to keep the crap out of the headset; I've had good luck with both the lizard skin style and also just a piece of innertube over the top and bottom of the headset, although the innertube method only lasts a month or two before it drys out and cracks.
