You might find this helpful _ as I did. IF Safari 5 is giving you trouble _ and if you have your original operating system install disc _ I was informed that the "best way" to get your old browser back is to run the operating system install disc again. O.K. I followed that route and apparently not only did I get the old browser back _ in my case Safari 4 via Snow Leopard _ but other "little weird issues" scattered about in my system were eliminated as well. Something tells me that Apple has not been doing their homework lately. Has Apple turned their back on the MAC and concentrated on portables? This could get interesting.

Job's has come out and said that, but he also said they would be spending alot of time on OS X over the next 12 months - hopefully they fix some of the bugs your mentioning.

Interesting that you mentioned Firefox. Of the other browsers that I have _ Chrome and Safari 4 _ Firefox just barely runs on my unit. It's very slow, "stalls out", and refuses to display pages. It's almost unusable. I try to keep it up to date, but nothing improves.

I've never had a problem with it. How old is your Mac? Maybe it could use a memory boost?

I've been using Safari 5 with 10.6.4, no problems, and Safari 5 is blazing for me. Often when you upgrade, and there is suddenly weirdness, you probably had some underlying, minor problems which were kicked up with the installation. May want to look at doing an Archive & Install from your 10.6 disc. I know a lot of people who've upgraded to S5 & 10.6.4 w/o problems, so it's probably unique to your machine.
Don't worry, Steve won't turn his back on desktop machines: you need them to develop software for the mobile devices!
Good luck.

Maybe, I'll try it that way and see what happens. The MAC store in salem NH gave me a list of things that I could try deleting. A lot of good that did. These items were no where to be found. I'll be honest with everyone, I've had a lot of trouble with this machine since day one and am coming a little short of "putting my fist through it". Everyone was warning me that Windows Vista was bad. Guess what, until recently, my other unit was running Vista when it was new. Unlike the MAC, problems were very few, small, far between, and easy to fix. It now has Windows 7, and it's even better. Hello!! Steve Jobs, are you listening?

So I ended up picking up a Mac over the weekend. I haven't had it long, but Safari has worked well for me since I picked it up.

one little known trick for issues on a Mac is to rebuild the permissions... will fix MANY small issues and help speed it up.. pretty simple to do,..
go into the "utilities" folder in the applications folder.... inside is "Disc Utility" fire that up... over in the right bottom corner will be a few button, (check permission, repair permissions, check disc, fix disc...) just hit the "repair permissions" button... walk away, it will most likely take a little while if you've never done it before. The first time you restart after doing this there may be kinda a long delay, but after that the computer will run noticeably faster!! kinda like "rebuilding the desktop" was back in OS7-9 days if you remember that far back :)

Not that it really matters but Mac's lineage can be traced back to UNIX; Linux is a clone. I may be making a bit to subtle a point...
