Hi All,
The Southern NH chapter of NEMBA will be having it's final spring trail maintenance day in Bear Brook State Park on Saturday May 8th. As most of you are aware, Bear Brook was hit hard by the big storm in March. There are still lots of very large trees blocking some of the major trails, some of which are very difficult for horses to clear. We will be meeting at Hayes Field at 9AM. I will be manning the gate just after the hiker/biker lot on Podunk Road. I will be locking the gate at 9:15 (as per the park manager)....so if you're late, you'll have to walk up to Hayes Field and try to find a work crew. We will be clearing the rest of the trails of large trees and dead fall. We will be sending work crews of 3 or 4 out on the trails. Each group will have someone with a chainsaw. So if you have a chainsaw and know how to use it, please bring it. Also, if you have a leaf blower and would like to use it, feel free to bring that also. We will have plenty of rakes this time. Bring gloves, water, bug spray, and wear comfortable shoes.....there will be lots of walking. We will work until about noon or one.
If the weather/trails cooperate, we will be doing a mt bike ride after the work. Hope to see you there! The bigger the group, the more trails we can clear. After this, the trail clean up is left to the park manager and he indicated that he would likely not get to it before the fall. So let's get out there and do our part to help the park. If you need any further information, e-mail or call 603-897-5774. Thanks! Kathy
