Saturday November 7 - Parkway/Walnut St Trail Construction.
Please join the Friends of Beaver Brook Reservation, Friends of the Western
Greenway, the New England Mountain Bike Association, and the Department of
Conservation and Recreation to finish the construction of over 3800 feet of
new trail and 560 feet of new boardwalks in the DCR Beaver Brook North
Reservation (formerly Met State Hospital) in Lexington. This work will
complete the Western Greenway link between the Metropolitan Parkway and the
new Lot 1 property across Walnut Street to connect greenspace in Lexington,
Belmont, and Waltham. The boardwalks are nearly finished, but there is still
a lot of trail to build. This will be the last work day of the season, so we
need a strong turnout of crew leaders and volunteers experienced at bench cutting
to finish this trail before winter.
Tools, instruction, and lunch provided. Bring your bottle for bottomless
refills of ice water. Come for whatever part of the day your schedule
allows. Work goes from 8:30am to approximately 3pm on Saturday November 7,
rain or shine. Lunch will be provided to volunteers present at lunch time.
Directions: If you know the area, take the Metropolitan Parkway North from
Concord Ave Lexington or the Metropolitan Parkway South across from Forest
St at about 480 Trapelo Rd, Waltham and follow signs to trail work. Parking
is behind the abandoned administration building at approximately

You can drive across the weed covered lots almost to the open gate in the
chain link fence if your vehicle ground clearance is not too low. Ignore the
Googlemap verbal directions, there is no Doty St. This is the preferred
parking so we don't fill the residential neighborhood with cars. If you are
unfamiliar with the area, use online maps or portable GPS to get to
Marguerite Terrace in Waltham, off Trapelo Rd, and park along the chain link
fence. The starting point is near the bottom end of Marguerite Terrace. A
paved bike path also runs along the Metropolitan Parkway and can be accessed
from Trapelo Rd, Waltham or Concord Ave, Lexington.
