We will be heading up to Acadia and possibly Baxter area in late Sept for a week vacation. Any places along the way that come recommended? Our trip is flexible as we have not booked campgrounds - we will be planning around where we find to ride. Any beta on places to ride and recommended trails/loop, maps, etc. would be great! Any great campgrounds too ... basically any info you care to share. We are intermediate riders from north of Boston so are familiar with rocks and roots - we like both flowy trails and those smattered with some technicality but not all technical. Thanks in advance for any ideas and input!:)

Ski Rack Sports in Bangor and Pat's Bike in Brewer. They are your local source for good riding.

Well, I always recommend my favorite place... On the way north, just north of Portland is Bradbury Mountain State Park that has camping and plenty of intermediate singletrack... www.bradburymountain.com

As mentioned Ski Rack Sports has group rides and beta on riding in the Bangor area. For riding on the island, there are the carriage roads but I know there are better trails. I just haven't found them. Bar Harbor Bike shop and Southwest Cycle should be able to direct you.

Mount Desert Campground is a nice campground if you don't want to be surrounded by RVs and will be "roughing it". They have a boat launch and waterside sites if you'll be bringing kayak.
