If you're not doing so already, keep checking Craigslist under Bikes. I see repair stands pop up there rather frequently.

I don't know what your budget is for a stand, but this is fairly compact and I have had good luck with it over the last 4-5 (wow, has it been that long?) years with it.

I will say it broke once and Nashbar was awesome about getting me the parts I needed to fix it. For $60 I don't think you can go wrong.
