What – Merrimack Valley 3rd TREK/NEMBA Trail Day for 2009.

When – This Saturday the 16th of May at 8:30 am.

Where – Russell Mill Reservation and Town Forest, 100-101 Mill Road, Chelmsford MA. (Across from Raymond Road)

What to bring – Work gloves and something to drink. We’ll supply the rest. And drag a friend along for good measure.

Why – MV NEMBA has been working on this property for two years now under the direction of the Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship to create a new trail system at Russell Mill. These trail are as you’d expect, mountain bike specific in design, but there also appropriate for walkers, joggers and hikers. (So if you like LDT, you’ll love RM)

Special Announcement - This Saturday, the town of Chelmsford will officially be opening this new bike specific trail system to the general public. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting at 11:45 a.m., followed by free hot dogs, burgers, lemonade and other refreshments. Look for some swag and maybe a raffle from MV NEMBA. So as you can see, this is not going to be your run of the mill trail day. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself). If you don’t get out to many NEMBA trail days, maybe you want to fit this in your schedule. Let’s show the town of Chelmsford our support and thanks for what has transpired at Russell Mill. And who knows, maybe other towns will be taking notice.

Call Norman Blanchette at 978 455-5605 or E-Mail n.blanchette@comcast.net for additional information.

Hope many of you can make it. We will be parking in the back lot of the Soccer Fields which is accessed off Mill Rd. Enter next to the Education Center directly across from Raymond Rd. There is a sign on a telephone pole "Soccer Fields".

For those of you who have wondered about Russell Mill here are a couple links which show the area and how the connections are made to Great Brook and Billerica. We hope to start trail work at Billerica SF sometime this year.

Lower White Owl, Upper White Owl, Yellow Finch, Coot Connector, Lollipop Loop?!? Who ever heard of such names for trails? AND what if we find the green birdhouse? Do we win some rock candy?

" Do we win some rock candy?"

Only if you can find the "mountain"

Is there going to be a ride / guided tour later on? I may try to show up with the double/dingle speed.

Lee,
We do plan on hitting the trails after ribbon cutting at 11:45. I would say that we will ride at 12:30.

Here's a very good write up on Saturdays event. I might have to get down there myself and grab some dirt and a burger. Mushrooms optional.

Thanks everyone for your help and devotion for making our Grand Opening a success with such a short notice. I hope going into the future Russell Mill will remain in the graces of The Town of Chelmsford and I know all of you will do the best you can to keep a great mountain biking opportunity like this around for a long time. We here at MV NEMBA are proud to have had the opportunity to be group entrusted with the design, build and maintenance of a great piece of property, one of which we have begun to use as the gateway to closely neighboring State Forests.
Take a look at the pictures from yesterdays event, look back in this thread for links to maps of the area and if you're in the area take advantage.
We still have work to do, and will get to that asap.

A great time had by all. Finished some benching on lollipop. Would not suggest the 3 hot dog lunch that I had. Tough to pedal after that. Nice trails, tight, swoopy and full of natural features. Cleaned both log rides the first try. Nice work. Looking forward to more riding there. Some of the riders took a little longer to ride the logs :)
