Hi folks,

I have a Trail Tech HID light, about 5 years old, that isn't working. I don't know if it is the battery or the bulb that is the problem. I've been using it regularly and it wouldn't light up the other day. I'm getting a blue indicator light in the toggle switch and have charged the battery pack over night.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Jack

Best bet would be to try another battery. If the second battery doesn't work then it's probably the ballast in the lamp, if it does, then its your battery. You can measure the voltage of the battery, but voltage is only half the story, and its not as easy to measure amperage (or tell if the battery is at fault or the light).

I actually had my Trailtech light fail the other night, but no blue light. I unplugged the battery and plugged it back and it was ok (of course I did this in the parking lot after braille trailing it back!).

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a shot.

Yeah check your ballast, it may be shot. Also not sure what battery voltage you are running with yours but the initial revisions of the voltage regulators on the trail tech HIDs were defective when running batteries in the 14+ vdc range.

How do you test to check ballast? Any option for repair if it is the ballast is broken? I'm guessing the battery is okay, it lit up another unit that I have.

thanks

I don't know how to check the ballast, but if its not the battery, that's likely the culprit. I know that is a pretty pricey unit, I would give TrailTech a call, they took care of me when I had an issue early on with my light.
