I am a solo rider, mostly. I was riding down a steep trail in BH last night and hit a wet log waterbar at less than 90 degrees, the rear wheel slipped vaulting me. As I put my foot down to dab, I rolled my ankle and went down in a heap. I laid there whining for some time. I forgot my cell. In all, it took me 90 minutes to get back to civilization walking and coasting. Four hours in the ER to assess a sprained ankle and fractured upper fibula.
Had I been injured a few degrees more, I would have been out there in the dark.
Bring your cell phone. File your flight plan. Have fun smartly.

Bummer Magoo, I'll take a raincheck on the BH tour.

I will add: I never had a cellphone because I never really use one. A few years ago another rider showed me virginmobileusa.com. you pay by the minute, so no monthly fee. i do use it about 20 minutes a month, but always have it with me when riding. it's 18 cents a minute. the phones are super cheap (like ten bucks) so i dont care if it gets ruined after a year or more of being in my riding shorts pocket.
if you get one, PM me. i think i get some free airtime by referring people.
knock on wood, I have not been injured riding in a while. but i do use it when I 'get a flat' and am going to be late getting home to the family...

On Monday I went for a solo ride to Rocky Neck, trying to get an hour ride in before dinner. about 3 miles from home and 1 mile in the woods the back end of my bike started dancing on its own. I managed to break the axle to my rear triangle.
Would have been a long walk home without the cell:o
