I have a diamondback response 2008 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2008&Brand=Diamondback&Model=Response&Type=bike
and the bottom bracket/crank is pretty bent outta shape so I'm just going to buy a new one. I want this crank http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/16176-100_TRUHU6-3-Parts-56-Cranks/Bolts/Truvativ-Hussefelt-2.2-RG-Crankset-2008.htm
...and I know what KIND of BB to get, but no idea what the dimensions mean. I don't want to order the wrong part so what should I measure/does anyone know what size ill need just by looking at the bikepedia link?
thanks

You can't tell from that link what size is needed. When you pull the BB that is in there out, it should have the dimensions printed on the side of it. I haven't ever actually measured for a BB, so I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but its basically the diameter of the threaded part and length of the spindle that is represented by those dimensions.
You may want to post a question up at the Diamondback forum on MTBR, I'm sure someone there will know. I did a quick search and came up empty.

The first number is the width of the 'shell' that is, the frame part that the bb goes in. The second number is the length of the spindle, both in mm.
Those numbers should be on the old one, but could be unreadable.

Uhh Tylah, they aren't X-type (to use yer Race Face lingo). Check it out dude. Perhaps the lack - o oxygen way up there on yer 29er is causin' some brain malfunctions...

p.s. OP, you'll need to buy a BB, I just can't tell you which one. Steve C basically told you how to figure it out, but you could always just go to your LBS and get it from them...

Crap, turdrider2 I mean dirtrider2 is right OP, not x-type or whatever everyone wants to call the "new" style. Hussefult should be ISIS interface, but double check I'm obviously off my game this Monday.
Lack of oxygen only coming from jumpin Dave, no wagon wheels this weekend. Give it a few more weeks and everything will be nice a touched up on that 4-pack of hits + other goodies, you'll have to come down.

Hard to picture that any of the howitzer bottom brackets wouldn't work. Outboard bearing bb with spacers for 68/73 shell widths

Turdrider, huh? Well, that was hurtful. Though, I do take some some solace in the fact that you misspelled Hussefelt in the very next sentence. Ha!
Most troubling for me, though, was your comment in the second paragraph concerning the phrase 'jumpin Dave'. I don't like the imagery that produces. Plus the microbrains that we ride with are probably having a field day typing up something base and unnecessarily hurtful.
Now off to cry in my pillow...
