Looking to replace my existing saddle (WTB Progel) & am looking for some suggestions from the group.
Current steed is a hardtail. Engine=200lbs

For new saddles I'm liking the Specialized Phenom Gel 143. Butt I mean but I still look for the old WTB SST.98 saddles. I haven't found a new WTB saddle that I like. I haven't tried the new SST models WTB just came out with this spring. They might be worth a try.

I'm 210# and recently enjoyed a WTB Pure V Pro saddle for 2-3 rides. The nose bent on a gentle lay down of a log hop, but it was quite comfortable for me. I've got a WTB Pure V Race en route now to replace the Pro. Saddles are personal preference due to differing arse shapes.

Used to like the larger more padded saddles but my behind has developed a fondness for the WTB Silverado, similar in some ways to the Spec Phenom. It's pretty thin but somehow comfortable. The base model has a modest price ($60 send away), is only 220 g, seems to be as durable as any, and is now on my full sus as well as the alum hard tail.

I also have a Silverado and at the time thought it was comfortable, but I recently got a new Trek that came with a Bontrager Race Light saddle and it makes the WTB feel really painful to sit on.

The WTB has a good overall shape, but I feel like the pressure isn't evenly distributed. On the Bontrager, it is just the perfect shape and has the right amount of cushion.

Belmont Wheelworks will let you install a saddle and ride around the block before you buy, which is nice. My LBS let me return several saddles before I found one I liked. I think they understand what a personal decision this is and will put in the effort to help you out.

I have a specialized phenom on my mountain bike and a specialized alias on my road bike. The saddles are pretty similar. I only feel support/pressure on my sit bones. Even though they don't have much padding, they are comfy because they flex. I got the phenom for $70, so it isn't too pricey. I think the phenom will end up on all of my bikes road & mountain.

Why is it called a saddle when it sits atop a SEATpost?

I went into the LBS early in my MTB "career" and asked for a new seat. The kind saleswoman brought me over to the kid seats that mount on the back of your bike. Wisea$$, she knew what I was looking for.

2nd (3rd?) on the Spec. Phenom SL. My shop convinced me to try it on my new XCish build and I'm very happy even at my hefty ~225lbs geared up. Most comfortable saddle I've ever had and I've been fairly happy with various WTBs. Definitely a light saddle, you won't find one on my big(ger) bike because I know I'll trash it, but I'm seriously considering buying another for my road bike.
