I live in Niantic, CT. Rocky Neck and Bluff Point have trails for pretty much all levels of riders.

Don't know about skills clinics but if you live in the area I could show you some trails.

Best thing is to just ride, you will build strength, stamina, skill and confidence simply by getting out there.

Bluff Point/Haley Farm as stated above has what you are looking for, easy fire road loops for your first time that still have great views. Bluff connects with haley farm via a road parrallel to Amtrak and a bridge over the tracks. There is a tangle of single track that covers a wide range of difficulty.

At Rocky Point, I'm less familiar with the trails, but it seems like you will be crossing paved roads as you loop through the park.

In RI there are group rides in Arcadia and Burlingame which are both close but not on the shore line.
