When Sat 8:30 am
Where: Graffiti bridge - on Oakmont Ave (off of South Ashburnham rd) Westminster, Ma
We've cleaned up most of the newer trails in Westminster, but there is still a few spots that could use some work. I figured we could do a little clean up and maybe even some new trail construction. Handsaw...loppers...rakes. Another chainsaw would be good as well.
PM me or Slappy for details or email me: Storkula@comcast.net
LSF is having a trail day as well.

Hey Stork,
I'm going to hit the Leominster State trails on Saturday for Park Serve Day to continue working on the trail up the west side of Ball Hill. I did a little solo work out there last Saturday and the top of Ball Hill is sheer devastation. I ran into a couple of the DCR guys and they are trying their best to clean up the big stuff with chainsaws but it is going to be a herculean task. BTW, they don't condone volunteers with chainsaws due to the liability issues........my bad. I'm going to bring a rake and "my tool" as Slappy called it. Here's the link for one those bad boys. http://www.loink.com/product/842/21
I took my bike for a walk on "Crack Pipe" and it was difficult to walk much less ride. It would appear that all the trails on the eastern end of the forest are untouched by human hands since the ice storm. Pretty bad.

Not quite. I've spent many hours touching my hands to trails from the Parmenter Rd entrance and others have too. Finally completed a loop yesterday. Hopefully this Saturday we'll spend some time on the East-West connector trails.

Let it be known that I am envious of Alf's tool.
:o
I'd love to finish the connection between the Link and the River Trail (or whatever you want to call it.) Shouldn't take too much if we get a few people. Rumor has it we'll do trailwork til lunchtime then hit up the shuttle run for a couple rips.
B-B - let me know if you need a loaner wheel til yours come in. I've got something in the parts pile that'll work.

Guys, good luck with the Westminster Trail Clean up! Here is a shameless plug for LSF ParkServe Day:
All,
FRIENDLY REMINDER: DCR ParkServe Day at Loeminster State Forest April 25th:
Lets plan on meeting at 8:45 at the Rocky Pond Rd (dirt) parking lot Saturday 25th (rain or shine). People have gone out a few times on the bike and started clearing a few trails mostly dragging junk off the trail and using a folding saw for some of the tangled stuff. You could bring gloves, leaf rakes, folding saws. One person has indicated they will have a chain saw if they (state) let us use it. The state should be supplying water and snacks.
Will see you then, the more people the better.

Hey guys its Dan, Was riding with Steve (Baked Bean) and Alec (WheresCal?) last weekend and just chiming in here. It doesn't seem like they will be able to make it out there Saturday morning but I'm hoping to get out there and help ya out. Looks like its gonna be a nice day to be outdoors for a change...

I actually started that today. Connected between the River trail to the little bowl area next to the tracks. Just needs a raking now.

I'll be there, this gonna be a hike out right? The River trail could use a once over on the way down to remove all the little derailleur catcher branches scattered everywhere.

Rode the Loop last night - it's 100% now. Rest of the new stuff around town, with the exception of Shenck Farm, is all open for business. Lots of it is freshly raked and downright "buff". We got some busy elves around here lately - thanks a ton you guys.
Figure Saturday we'll probably end up tackling the Midstate heading south from the Graffiti Bridge since all this other stuff has already been cleaned up.

I raked the entire River Trail Connector from the soccer field to the train tracks this morning. Wasn't an inch that me rake didn't touch! : ) All clear and ready to rip. :rad:
I didn't check to see if any work had been done dropping back into the trails (somewhere right after the culvert?) from the train tracks though.

Haha thanks...I found it a while ago but just started using it recently, it's also my avatar on mtbr forums...
And by the way, awesome job on the river trail Bean. Was the ground still wet from the past few days? I would imagine that it would be.
If you keep breaking your bike on the downhill all the trails in town will be in tip top shape in no time:)...

Dude you rule. :rad:
I'm gonna take a rip over there in about 3 hours...woohoooo!!
Stork went out and did a little work on the connection along the RR tracks the other day...haven't made it out to see exactly what he did yet.
Sounds like Midstate and Schenk Farm are next on the list...then we start flagging the next batch of new stuff. Got a BUNCH of land to work with too.

The trail was as dry as if it didn't even rain.
I think/hope the new wheels will be able to manage my fat arse better. Maybe I'll even learn to land better too : P
....oh... had a hitchhiker (deer tick) on me that I found in the shower, deet is recommended

That's going to be doubly true this weekend, with 80 degree weather coming its definitely going to kick start the bugs.
