This Saturday April the 25th MV-NEMBA will be hosting a trail event at Great Brook Farm in Carlisle MA for Park Serve Day. This event is also part of the TREK/NEMBA trail Care series. We will be doing some badly needed maintenance and repair work on both sides of Indian Hill. Indian Hill is located just to the left of the entrance of Stone Row. We will be parking and meeting at the Pavilion Center at 8:30 and heading out to the work site at 9:00 from there.
Some of the tasks we will be performing:
Creating better drainage on the hill by creating water bars and digging trenches along the trail to allow water to flow off.
Blocking off access to some of the older lines and getting control of new lines being created.
Removing debris along the trail, lopping off low hanging branches, cutting old stumps along the trail, and raking leaves where appropriate.
We also hope to be doing some bench cutting on the back side of the hill to help define the proper lines up and down.
As part of this project we can expect to do a little rock work here and there where required.
For those that don't get to attend many trail days this is a good opportunity to give something back to a great facility like Great Brook Farm that we have all enjoyed over the years. The DCR will be providing water and snacks and MV-NEMBA will be supplying Pizza and soda back at the Pavilion at 1 o'clock when the event wraps up. Please drop me a line if you plan on attending. And for those with trail experience I will be looking for "trail bosses" to assign to different areas of the trail to help direct the volunteers. Let me know if this is something you may be interested in. Look for more trail work for Great Brook to follow in the months to come.
Thanks in advance
