Hey,

Last fall I bought a new wheel with a Surly hub for my SS 29er.

After the first ride this season the hub started squeaking when my weight is over the back wheel. It occurs whether I'm pedaling or coasting and reduces when I shift my weight forward off the back wheel.

I disassembled the hub and greased everything but that didn't help.

Any clues? Bad bearings perhaps?

Thanks.

Very common don't worry about it.

How is the spoke tension? I'd guess that the spokes need a quick go-through.

Depends on the squeak. It could just be the dust seals. but if it is not constant squealing then it may be something bigger. Does it sound like a mouse or like a rubbing disc brake. When pedaling or only when not pedaling? Sound liek it happens out of the saddle...does it happen when you are braking?

Mouse squealing is more like it, regardless of what I'm doing on the bike (pedaling, coasting, braking, etc). It stops when I'm completely off.

My Surly hub does that too. Doesn't seem to affect performance.

come by the loft and I will check it out. I'll be there Sunday...I'll have more time on Monday to look at it though.

Cheers and happy trails!
