Ft Rock has been opened by the Exeter Trails Committee and the Con Comm.
The reports I have gotten say it is in prime shape!

I walked it thurs the 9th and it was extremely muddy and the trail closure signs were still up. If you rode the trails thurs it would have caused deep muddy ruts. How can it be open this soon?

I just rode there on Sunday the 12th, and it was at least 90% dry. We rode the bulk of the north and south side trails, and the majority of them were summertime-dry. The only mud we encountered was in the few low spots near the boggy areas, but these were short and easily walked around (I never ride through muddy bits like that, I don't want to wreck the trails!).
So yes, Fort Rock is all open, and most of it is in perfect shape! This week's warm, dry weather ought to help the last little bits dry out nicely. A word of caution though: some areas have LOTS of sticks and branches on the trail, so be careful you don't get some sucked into your wheels. Happy riding!

Yup, just got back from a ride, and it was very dry out there!
The trails were officially opened on Friday afternoon, as the signs were taken down.
Happy trails!

What.....no phone call? I decided to go to Willowdale to start what should prove to be a good week of riding. I'll be at Fort Rock around 5:00pm today to get a loop in before the Con.Com. meeting.

I am hoping to ride 'the Rock' for the first time this Saturday. We'll be driving down from the lakes region, so it would be late morning. A tour guide would be greatly appreciated.

What did you do....ride everything 3 times? I don't think I've ever ridden more than 3 hours in there at one time.....and that was more than enough.

I went on Friday. It was awesome conditions. The only mud I ran into was heading towards the Oakland side parking lot. It was awesome to get out on some trails after riding the road for a few months. Does anyone think FOMBA will open soon?

Yeah I rode from one side to the powerlines on the other side, then went back to the parking lot. ate some food and did another loop to the powerlines and back. I can only ride 2 times a week so I gotta make it worth it. plus you can easily make it 5+hours if you switch up the trails. riding the the other directions really makes things different.

almost forgot, rode there again today. saw a few bikers. Anyone see me on a cannondale? I e-mailed a fomba about the trails opening and they told me that historically they do not open till May.

I was at the train trestle lot with my dog for a "lunch ride", I think she may have said hi.
Has anyone else noticed the home-stead (tents, laundry lines, etc.) going on behind the large mound at the train trestle lot?

The tent set-up has been there for a couple of weeks now. I think I saw a car seat as well. For all we know it may be a family hanging out there. I just figured that it was someone down on their luck so I didn't want to make a big deal about it. I like camping....just not out of necessity.

Yup, I just wondered how long it had been there.

I think the inhabitants of the tent are a young homeless couple. My family has a local laundromat and there has been a young homeless couple hanging out front spare-changing!! I saw a baby carriage out front of the tent on Sunday. That's ruff, and I'm sure the Exeter Police will make them move very soon.
Also if anybody ever needs a tour of Fort Rock let me know!!

I havent been much past the powerlines. Does anyone know where the trails lead to once you cross the powerlines? do they loop? I wanted to explore but I was getting pretty far away from my truck.

Dude, we can ride sometime and we can go north of the power lines, as there are lots of loops possible.

I'll be there Friday afternoon ~4:30 riding only north of the power lines, if you'd like to join. It'll be a very relaxed paced group (a couple guys just getting back into riding after long absences), but it'll at least familiarize you with some of the trails. PM me if you want to join in.

FT ROCK
East of 101 should be pretty good. We were in on Wednesday "Earthday" with about 20 kids from Phillips Exeter Academy and we raked, rock armored, and added a "natural trail feature". We cleaned up some stuff that had been getting beat up, hopefully you notice the fixes we put in.
