Last summer at Kingdom Trails I snapped the dropout on my main ride - a 29er On One Inbred. At Interbike I saw the new Hammerschmidt Front Drive so, while having it repaired (thanks Mickey @ Spookybikes for the repair and new Powdercoat) I had ISCG tabs brazed on as well to accommodate this beast.
First reaction - though heavy and pricey - the Hammerschmidt is oh so cool...

Nice. I was wondering if you could get some of that weight back by running it as a 3x1 (you get 3 ratios out of the Hammerschmidt right?). Sort of a cheaters singlespeed!

That's hot. I can't wait to see it. I think the Hammerschmidt is only two ratios.

Yeah - Hammerschmidt is 2 gears - with 2 options - with two available cogs 22 and 24.
I had thought about running it 2x1, but it makes for a pretty big step between gears, probably more than would be useful.

Two... On the all mountain setup he has he has a 22/36 I believe.
The Free Ride version I just got rid of was 24/38.
