Before I organize a specific event and date, I want to send out some feelers. Since riding season began a few weeks ago, seems we ought to organize a big trailwork day. Most trails seem to be in good shape, but there are a few areas needing attention. What I'd like to do is try to get 12-16 people together someday soon and we can head out in groups of 3 or 4 to each complete a project or two.
Here's what I have in mind:

A few sections need armoring. Specifically -
A long straight section along IMBA
The stream crossing at beginning of Entrance exam's climb
Muddy stream crossing on Viper/Serpentine
Muddy crossing on Raptor

Leafblowing - Private Investigations and Far Side/Far Out.

I know it ain't much, but those are the issues I've encountered thus far. If anyone else has noticed things to fix, don't hesitate to say something. I'm thinking maybe April 18 or 25 would be a good day to take care of these, but I'm not wedded to those dates. Let's use this thread as a means of discussing the preservation of these popular trails and organizing a work day.

I can help early on the 18th but I go on call at noon. The 25th is open all day right now.

1. With a few days of rain preceding the only nice day this weekend....perhaps tomorrow is a good day to consider trail work (we'll have a crew today and tomorrow up at Wendell). I've ridden once this Spring and have pretty much lived in the woods with a rake and Mcleod for two weeks...

2. Chaz, the 25th is 'Park Serve day" I'd love to see a sizable crew in every Park we ride doing visible work on that day..., consider plumping for a big Batchelor St day on the 25th.

I'll probably be at Hawley That day--the ice storm devastated that place (like, in Biblical proportions, it's quite heartbreaking to see!)-we'll have crew at Wendell as well, hopefully at Robinson and the DAR, too---But, if you want to spear-head a big day on 25th (along with some smaller days) at B-street-that would be dynamite.

3. Oh yeah-if you can squirrel away any weekday hours, Mr. Green, Young Mr. Green and Myself could certainly get out with you and do some rockwork/leafblowing.

I'm fired up to do some work with you guys at batchelor street. This'll be my 9th season riding there and I have yet to do any work out there. I'm totally free on the 25th. Can't do anything on the 18th. I'm also free random days during the week, and I live only 10 minutes away in belchertown.

The 25th works best for me. Also, I work in Amherst, so I could easily do some weekday hours if anyone is interested. I'm out of work by 3:30, most days that is. I've ridden B-street, but not as much as it sounds like you guys have, so I would like to pair up with someone who knows the trails a little better than me. Anyone who wants to reach me directly can email me at bikeharder@comcast.net.

Then it's official -
APRIL 25 - Batchelor street trailwork day.

Anyone interested in participating should contact me via email - chaznielsen AT gmail DOT com - so I get an idea of how many people will be there and how to organize it.
