I'm thinking about hitting Case next week. I've never been there and I checked out the map on Crankfire. Is Case easy to find your way around or is it a confusing trail network? I work odd hours so it's hard for me to make the rides that get posted for evening hours so I'm probably riding solo. I'm coming from WMass so I plan on parking on the main lot off of 384 and going from there. Thanks in advance!

There are a lot of options for trails out there, I suppose it could be confusing. When you say the main lot off 384 - do you mean Line Street or Case Pond Lot? Both are off 384 (so is Spring Street for that matter). Personally I like Case Pond Lot as a starting point.

I can write out a possible loop for you, but it comes with some risk (in you getting lost). Let me know which parking lot you're starting from and if you're willing to accept that risk and I'll write something up for you.

John,
Got the PM. Is the Case Mt. lot the Spring St. lot? The parking area on Crankfire I was looking at is the one of exit 4 next to Case Pond. If not I'll find the Case Mt. lot and use your directions. Thanks!

Yeah, Case Pond Lot is off of exit 4 (so is Spring St). If you googlemap to 25 Birch Mountain Road in Manchester CT you'll get close. Incidentally I'm leading a ride there Sunday morning at 9:30 if you're interested. It will be a relatively slow paced ride, with a couple of guys doing their first ride of the year. It will be technical though.

Looking forward to it, Jisch. I expect to be cramping and walking on the last few climbs out. I deserve it for slacking for five months.

It's only been five months?

Well, there was a stab at spinning that lasted a couple of weeks. I don't want to do the actual math, though.

I'll probably tag along. Weather should be pretty decent. Not too cold.

Case Pond Lot is the parking spot marked on the top right of this map:

yeah! Good ride today. 6 riders. We got to a key decision point, everyone seemed good so we went for the longer option. Nice!

It was nice riding with you again. I'm looking forward to riding Case again. :)

Thanks for the ride, John. It was good to work off the rust on some dry terrain rather than the muddy, slushy jeep roads I've been on for the past few weeks.

I'm working on the taking-up-the-rear thing. Aren't there any downhill-only places in CT?

I appreciate the patience you all showed!

Of course any time you guys want a tour let me know, there are plenty of other trails out there, at a minimum you need to ride up and/or down Slickrock and down the blue/yellow, oh and we didn't ride the yellow trail, and, and, and... :-D
