A lot of our State Parks offer some great mountain biking. Are any chapters organizing work parties for the various State Parks (MA).
Personally, I'd be up for Wendell, Hawley, or DAR....

I hiked around on Saturday 3/7 and the Leominster State Forest Trails are a disaster from December's Ice Storm in Worcester County! It is going to take months to clean them up!
Not much info right now but, a Park Serve Day is scheduled for Saturday 4/25 at 9am. I thought I would send this out so people could hold the date. After speaking with the district manager for the state forest only trained professionals can use chain saws. So this will be mainly trail clean up work from the professional crews that have gone through before us. I have also been in contact with the local New England Mountain Biking Association Chapter Rep. Jim Wrightson on this... I'm planning to dedicate most the day for cleaning the trails and will try to update as I find out more details or see NEMBA website events page.

If the snows have receded enough by then, I expect PV NEMBA will have a crews in Hawley and/or the DAR to work on reopening trails devastated by the December Ice Storm.
Keep an eye out here for announcements from Liam etal.

listed at this point at NEMBA events:
Middlesex Fells
Great Brook
Harold Parker
Wompatuck
Leominster
More to be added I'm sure.
Having done a couple of these Park Serve days in the past, these work days really generate a ton of good will, from the property supervisor right on up to upper level management in Boston, and also show our level of commitment and expertise in a way that is often not noticed.

All,
FRIENDLY REMINDER: DCR ParkServe Day at Loeminster State Forest April 25th:
Lets plan on meeting at 8:45 at the Rocky Pond Rd (dirt) parking lot Saturday 25th (rain or shine). People have gone out a few times on the bike and started clearing a few trails mostly dragging junk off the trail and using a folding saw for some of the tangled stuff. You could bring gloves, leaf rakes, folding saws. One person has indicated they will have a chain saw if they (state) let us use it. The state should be supplying water and snacks.
Will see you then, the more people the better.

Further adding to this; Wompatuck will be participating in Park Serve Day this Saturday April 25th. Held in conjunction with NEMBA and Friends of Wompatuck (FOW), this will be part of the Trek Bicycles/NEMBA trail care series. By attending and signing with NEMBA you will be entered into a end of season drawing for a high high end Trek full suspension bike!
Several projects are planned including planting of flowers around DCR buildings, planting of several trees provided by FOW, a roving cut back crew on bike, and possible bridge project over a blown out muddy section if turn out is good and we have enough eager hands. Bring your bike, I'm sure people will be wanting to enjoy the great projected weather by getting out and riding.
Hope to see you there.

2nd Posting:
My apologies for this late notice – our Park Serve event at the Middlesex Fells has been cancelled. Please pass this on to any of your riding friends who planned on attending.
The Friends of the Fells lobbied hard to prevent us for restoring existing singletrack for mountain bike use, arguing that such a trail violated the Wetland Protection Act. The DCR will be reviewing the legitimacy of this claim. We believe that we have a lot of support from the DCR and we plan to pursue this and secure equitable access for mountain biking.
Again, I apologize for the change of plan but we only heard about this a few minutes ago.

LSF Question response to Boudy, is not sure there is a lot of work and will need hands to carry tools to work locations. I am bringing my bike to hopefully squeeze in a ride at the end.
Hope this helps

Great Job and Thanks to everyone who helped out on ParkServe Day at Leominster State Forest (Pics forthcoming...) I think the trails we worked on look better than they did last year! It sure was HOT!
The next opportunity to "formally" clean up some trails is National Trails Day on Saturday June 6th.
