I heard a rumor that Case is in good shape. Can anyone confirm or deny? Any info would be helpful as I'd be coming from Western Mass.

Thanks!

I have heard varying things. There is a thread over at Bikerag in the General Discussion section entitled "Case is not ready to ride" which has seen regular updates. I was out at Cockaponset today which is about 20 miles south of Case. I rode from 8-11 and it was frozen the whole time. I did see some deep MTB ruts from someone riding there when it wasn't frozen. Case drains better than Cockaponset so I'm not sure how much that helps.

It doesn't look like its even going to get to the freezing point tonight, so I don't think an early ride would make much difference.

I may take a ride down there this afternoon to check it out myself.

I just got back from a hike at Case. I would say give it another week. A lot of it is dry, but there's still a lot of mud. Personally, I couldn't ride there without feeling guilty about it. I mainly hiked around Case Mt proper, I heard the Birch Mt side was in similar shape. I guess make your own decision, its not like its a complete mudfest.

Thanks for the reply and recon. I'd have to agree. I really want to ride trail, but I don't want to make a mess.

I dont know where in mass you are , but we drove to 909 in Pleasant Valley NY today . The singletrack was perfect ,no mud . Access roads were wet . I live near Gt Barrington and its just over an hour . Harry

I'm in Northampton. So, heading out to NY would be a bit much for me. Especially as I love the road bike(s) too. We still have 6-10" of snow in some northern portions of the Pioneer Valley. Spiring is on it's way

At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite... My wife and I were set to do a road ride Sunday morning, it was originally a group ride at Case, but I cancelled it due to the questionable conditions. We we decided we'd rather ride the carriage paths at Case since we knew they would be fine and they go right up to the summit, going up and over and back on those would be a pretty good ride/workout. We got to the top of Case and decided to try a trail - it was perfect, no mud. We ended up riding for a couple of hours, we walked a few muddy sections, but seriously not very many. The trails we rode were completely different trails than the ones we walked - less technical and a bit boring, but at least we got out. Depending on how much rain we get on Wed/Thur I think it will be good for next weekend.

Conditions were excellent. Very minor mud in 1 or 2 spots. It was so good to ride on dirt!
