The Modern World is one of the most astute political cartoons around.

What's that they say about insanity, something about trying the same things over and over again and expecting different results? We REALLY need more tax cuts.

We REALLY need more tax cuts.

Hey Slider I've got an idea. Lets give a tax cut to people who don't pay federal income tax and raise taxes on all the rest of us. And at a time when people are bailing out of the stock market lets raise the capital gains tax on stock investments. Yeah! That sounds like a winning proposal. There's an incentive to invest in the market. As far as past tax cuts they have always worked to turn the economy around. The problem was we increased spending while cutting taxes. That's the part that doesn't work. So let's just give Obama a blank check.

People who must spend on essentials put 100% of any incentives back into the economy. The higher you go up the economic ladder, the lower the percentage. Misunderstanding of that fundamental concept is why Republicans can't get away from the "lower taxes" mantra.

Any money spent on living expenses climbs into the coffers of the producers eventually, but generates tax revenue each step of the way, unlike money paid to the top tier, as the Republicans have done to disastrous effect every chance they've had.

I think both parties are idiots, the answer seems to be pointing to a new party more and more every day.

Hmm...that's an interesting angle.
I'd be curious to see how the numbers would play out on a large scale; got any links? (Pardon my laziness...)

Actually your talking about welfare. When the government says sit back and we'll take care of you then where's the incentive to get off your ass and make a better life for your family. Under Clinton and the Republican Congress welfare dropped significantly. Obama is bringing back the welfare state. Is this progress?

Actually, we are talking about jump starting the economy. We tried shifting the load off the wealthy and it didn't work. The privileged got their shot and blew it. Now they are whining about "destruction of wealth", as if the stock market collapse did something else.

What we are left with, to stop the bleeding, is government spending. It's the last bandage in the first aid kit. And it makes most sense to wrap it where the bleeding is worst.

Another panel for "Republican Strategies for Success"?

I think both sides are proving to be equally adept at it.

Won't somebody please think of the children! The hell with the children, if we don't do something to save the enviroment, our children won't have a world to grow up in.

As usual, you guys are missing it completely. We need to KILL the children. Then the earth will be pristine.

Why do you think George Soros started this whole economic meltdown, anyway? First, we starve the poor enough to revolt. Then they take care of the elite. The few wandering bands left worship Gaia, our earth mother. And soon, peace and prosperity reign throughout the universe.

Get with the program, will ya?

Sorry I jumped your post. Here's a good starting point:

I don't think that theory has been properly peer reviewed and vetted. Sorry.

Well, compared to the Trickle Down theory, you are right, sir. That one's a proven loser many times over.
