On Sunday October 05, 2008, Dieselbikes, Sinister Bikes and NSNEMBA will be holding our second Trail Maintenance day for Tompson Street Reservation / B&T's. Essex Country Greenbelt has approved this trail day and we look forward to volunteer support by the local community. This will be the last trail day for the 2008 season and we have a good amount of work to be completed on Sunday. Here is what you need to know:

Start Time and Meeting Location:
Everyone should meet at the Sinister Compound, 9 White's Mountain Road Gloucester at 8:30am. We will be leaving the parking area by 8:45 after a trail safety/work review meeting and head to the job site. If you cannot make it there by 8:45, come any way and just ride or walk out to the work site. We will put you to work when you get there.

Project Weather/Cancellations:
Dieselbikes works regardless the weather conditions are rainy or sunny. If inclement weather such as but not limited to severe lighting, heavy rain, nor’easters and or snow, we will then post a cancellation notice one day prior on the homepage of our website.

Estimated Project Time:
We accept this project to take 4 hours to complete. If you bring your bike, you can be the first to ride the trail! We may have a group ride after the required trail work is completed, but this is weather/time dependent.

What to Bring:
Bring your own bug spray, snacks, water, pair of work gloves and eye protection. Weather is always questionable, so dress appropriately. Bring your bike is encouraged but always optional. Lunch will be held at the Sinister Compound after required trail work is completed.

What WE are going to do:
The section highlighted in blue on the work map below shows the general area of trail work. A section of Trail that runs up hill has become severely eroded and unappealing to many recreational users. We will be cutting a new much longer trail connector that will flow it’s way up the hillside. This new section will better utilize the natural terrain with large exposed rock features and sweeping S-Turns to make the section much more sustainable and fun to ride in both directions.

The goal is to cut and identify the trail direction. This project will not require much rock armoring, but we will need crews to clear and boarder the trail thread. The work site will be a 20-30 walk from the Sinister Compound and volunteers will need to help carry tools to and from this work site. This will be a labor-intensive day and tools will be provided by NSNEMBA. If you have your own personal tools you rather work with, feel free to bring them, but you are responsible for your own property.

Please PM or e-mail (info@dieselbikes.com) if you need further information.

Just want to make sure that folks know that this is a NSNEMBA sponsored event and part of the Trek/NEMBA Trail Care Series. All NEMBA members who sign in will earn a chance to win a Trek bike at the end-of-season raffle. We'll also be providing trail tools and helping out with the lunch and refreshments.

We are very fortunate to have such a great place to ride as Tompson St. Res. Come on out, support Essex County Greenbelt Association, and help fix a problem spot with a fun new reroute.
