UPDATE:
Due to rain this weekend, this event will be postponed until Saturday October 4, 2008 8am-1pm
Saturday September 27, 2008 will be the second and final trail maintenance day of the year on National Public Lands Day at Hodges Village Dam, from 8am - 12pm.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2007, 110,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. Join us for the 15th annual National Public Lands Day.
The rangers at Hodges Village have been very welcoming and open to mountain bikers and NEMBA. They've hosted MTB races, Adventure Series rides, IMBA trailcare days and allow us continued use of their property. I know I personally have ridden their trail system many times this year, and owe it to them to help out with keeping the land what it is - a great place we all love to ride at.
So come on out and pitch in, help us show the rangers that we appreciate everything they do for the cycling community. The more volunteers we get the easier the work is so let's get out there and show this wonderful group of people how much we appreciate their cooperation and the use of their property.
If you haven't been to a trail maintenance day before, make this your first! You'll get to meet some of the park management, your fellow NEMBA members and chapter leadership, lunch will be served and we'll probably have a ride afterward for anyone interested, so bring your bike and gear!
Please bring:
Study footwear - boots are recommended
Work gloves
Long pants
Bug spray
Water
The Army Corps of Engineers will supply all of the tools we will need.
I'll post directions, and any additional pertinent info in the next day or so. If you're coming, please post here or contact me so I can have a rough idea of turnout. Our last trail day earlier this year had about 10 members, can we get more this fall?
