View Full Version : The PR

Work takes me to Arlington Monday at 4 for a quick stop, and when I googled the directions, I noticed that both the Fells and the PR are close by.
I've never ridden either one, but after reading the "My First Fells Ride" thread, I'm thinking maaaybe I'll head over to the PR. :)

Is there anyone who's willing to be a tour guide around 5 on Monday? Or, if not, maybe a couple of pointers so I can find my way around?

Thanks!
Jean

I could give you a tour, I try to ride the PR at least once a week. Its small so its tough to get lost but I can show you were the best stuff is.

I want to spend as much time there as I can, word on the street is that Bedford is looking to sell the land to developers to cover budget shortfalls :(

There is a parking lot underneath some power lines on Turning Mill Rd in Lexington (right next to Grimes Rd). 5pm on Monday?

I can also guide rides in there. I know every single inch of trail and all the loops to maximize
distance with minimal overlap. plus the trails around the towns. I live 2.1 miles from one entrance.

I ride my 29'er in there
my regular mtb
my singlespeed
cross bike
and pugsley

it's a blast

Cool the more the merrier :) and as hogboy said its predominantly xc trails. There are some cool rocks to roll over but there is trail to the sides if you wish to avoid them. Its a little bit hilly but not too bad.

The trails are right next to the Burlington Mall on the opposite side of Rt3. There is a dirt parking lot under some high voltage lines on Turning Mill Rd which is technically in Lexington. I can give detailed directions if your having trouble Google mapping it.

also you can go in under the rt62/rt3 overpass, on the bedford side headed east.

bonus: on this entrance is one of the three toughest grunts in the whole place

watch ! for a yellow triangle arrow anywhere in the joint. if you follow the
arrows (no arrow, go straight) it takes you on a 5 mile loop on 1/2 of
the land with zero overlap, showing most of the place west of the gasline.

after that there are still all the trails headed to the powerlines and stuff out
there. with minimal trail crossover and duplication you can get 13 miles out of
it, and maybe have to travel the same trail 100 feet once, to do it.

so on an unguided run through, ya may think eh, 'tis small, but trails snake all over
the place and if you pick your intersections well (like a maze, always turn right)
you can see loads of stuff

err i won't be riding until

tuesday at the earliest. I don't wanna
risk ripping the sutures open. both arms
and a leg, that is a fair bit of real estate to manage

We need to have some Burlington residents show up to some of the Committee meetings on the discusions about the future of the PR. I live in Wilmington and will still try to attend.

Well done everyone. It was a little warm but we were able to keep up a good pace and see just about everything. Oh and MissJean, I'll be sure to pass your message on to Tom next time I see him.

Thanks for the ride!
