Any surfers our there? I just started a couple weeks ago, but the bug bit hard.

I find that my riding muscles are WAY different than my surfing muscles... Muscles is a really strong word there. Lets say fat instead.

We were really fortunate to get all that Bertha swell in July, It was great! I went out like ten days straight, sometimes twice a day and I could care less about biking when it’s going off like that. Unfortunately I’m recouping from a nasty Eskimo kiss with my board that cut the bridge of my nose down to the bone, but it was good to get back on the bike while the cut healed, my arms were really getting sore in a bad way from all the paddling, I think I was over doing it. The surfing workout is really an excellent compliment to mountain biking, totally different muscles are used and I have never felt more fit mixing up the two sports on a regular basis, good upper body and core strength. Yeah surfing is rad, just getting out in the water is relaxing for the mind, even if the waves aren’t so great. I also find that I can be totally beat after work and just plain tired, it’s hard to muster up the strength to go biking, but with surfing, you go in the water beat and come out totally energized. The downside to surfing, unlike biking is how dependant we are on conditions and all the factors that make good waves, sometimes when you really want to get out and catch some it can be MONTHS! Arrgh, that’ a drag… but then again we have always have the bike to ride. It’s good to mix it up.

Let me know if your thinking about getting a custom board made sometime in the future Catbq, I’ve got a couple of connections up here in town. I have one friend who makes his living just shaping and making really nice traditional foam boards. And there’s these guys http://www.grainsurfboards.com right next to my woodshop, we cnc the internal frames for them and I also spray finish the final coats polyurethane on the complete boards. The wooden grain boards are heavier and behave a little differently than a lighter foam board, but they are pretty bad ass, especially if you made it yourself.

Anyway, yeah surfing rocks!

I was a surfer in a previous life. I made the mistake of going to Hawaii on my honeymoon and it was never quite the same again. I really miss being out in the water. Currently I really miss being on the bike as well.
