Hey I know this place isn't a NEMBA destination type spot, but I can ride to it from my house in 10 minutes. Anyway, I've been trying to find the access to Hale from Noanet. I've got all the maps but I keep somehow missing the connection, end up in someone's yard.

Sunday I started in Hale and tried via the Strawberry Hill Trail, but wound up bailing on the n/s fire road.

Anybody have any advice on this. Its really not as easy as it looks unless I've totallly missed the boat.

BTW, they don't charge at either place for permits anymore. The ranger said it wasn't worth it because there was not enough participation to maintain it as a program. So on sunday the trails were EMPTY and in nice shape. I'd been told its incredibly easy riding, but I would not agree to that statement about Hale. (tho it is quite small).

Hello, I haven't ridden there in some time(years), but recall... as you come down the Strawberry hill trail, you come to a "T". I believe you cross the remnants of a stone wall and then hit the "T". Turning right there you climb up a hill that was topped with gravel. This is the beginning of the Noanet trail system coming from Hale. Turning left you are in Hale... here is a map link. http://www.halereservation.org/Forms/Other_Forms/2007MapBothSides.pdf the area I am talking about is near the number 8 on the map, they show a four way crossing, but I do not recall it as such. Hope this helps.

Thanks this is just what I was looking for. I will try your directions. I don't remember the stone wall but it was only first time thru. I must have made the left rather than the right.

Will let you know!
thanks
Joan

Yowza! I will stay off that, but its PERFECT for ultra-tech racer BF. I can dump him off there while I go pedal peacefully around the strawberry trail. : )
What is the access to the Satan's place? Is this a Westwood property?

Hey--As I live just minutes from Noanet and Hale, I've been riding at Hale 3-4 times/week since last Fall (weather and conditions permitting) and am in awe of what's been built there, esp south of Powissett St. I found the connecting trail to Satan's Kingdom as follows (refer to the Hale map in Splat's post): Take the Oak Hill trail (east trailhead, next to a residence), cross the gas pipeline and look for the first single track on your left. Follow this trail to an obviously built-up log pile where the trail splits. Go left, down a hill and follow this trail until it reaches a residential cul-de-sac. This trail skirts some homes but (acc to Hale Res map) is still on Res property. Take a right on this road and you will almost immediately find yourself on Hartford St. Take a left and look for the single track trailhead on the right. If you reach the fire road gate you've gone too far.

You should give the single track loops off of the Oak Hill trail a try. Some of the sections are too hairy/difficult for most but the terrain is fantastic and there a several great vistas. What a jewel.

Thanks for the great input. I will check that area of the park this week.

I am in the process of developing an epic training ride that departs from my place at 9 and 16 Wellesley Hills. I ride thru the town trails and then enter Noanet, working on Hale and then down to the Satanic place I guess. As I am building skills, this will take me quite a while to master.

Should be fun!
