So we have a few casualties. The good news is the homeless children will have free access to Ritalin!

I don't understand. Who benefits when they have no coverage at all?

The rest of us who have the benefits. It sounds harsh but the proposed universal system waters down care for everybody as is seen in those examples mentioned.

Except that the rest of us pay for those that are not covered.

Yes. Either way we pay. That's not debatable. Under the Universal system we get less bang for our bucks.

The devil is in the details, and we haven't seen those yet.
But I'm not so sure that "we" get less bang since that includes many with no coverage. Surely, they get more.

"They" can get more if the entire insurance and pharmaceutical industries were revamped and regulated. The devil in the details is twofold. One, tort law is out of control. And two, people don't take responsibility for their own health. As long as people continue to eat garbage and practice unhealthy vices, I, a healthy and fit person, am forced to pay more for insurance. Do you think that changes under a universal system? Not in any of the proposals I've seen.
And what about undocumented workers? Where do they fall under a universal healthcare? Oh, I know where that fall in Slider's healthcare system.
All of these things are huge questions yet to be answered. I think it needs to start with insurance companies pro-rating their rates based on health and fitness level. Give people the disincentive to remain unhealthy by forcing the obese, for example, to pay much higher rates. What? Can't afford it? Well, better throw away those Susie Q's and start walking.

Undocumented workers now walk into an emergency room, where we all pay for their treatment.
