I have a vacation planned with my family this summer on Martha's Vineyard. I'll be bringing my wife's and two young sons' bikes, so I'm forced to choose between my mtb and road bike due to space limitations. I'd prefer to take the mtb if there are some decent trails on-island. My hope is to find some semi-challenging XC trails (can't imagine too much technical stuff exists on the island) that I can do myself, as well as some nice beginner trails I can do with my wife and 7 and 9-yr old sons. The house we'll be staying in is fairly close to Edgartown, so something we can pedal to would be ideal, but I'm not opposed to throwing the bikes on the rack and driving there. Any insights/suggestions?

I have not ridden he trails there, but I have heard they are pretty decent. Here is a link to a trail review from there. Click "Massachusetts" then scroll down till you see the review for the Martha's Vineyard trails. There are pics etc....Good luck!

There used to be an MV Chapter that posted a great ride every Sunday, but I dont see it in the Singletracks copy that I grabbed. It isn't the most recent, so check there.
The trails aren't real technical there but, if the ride still exists, you get the best sightseeing the island has to offer, and they aren't afraid to tack on the miles if the group is up for it.

There is some really fun riding to be found on MV. My buddy and NEMBA member, David Whitmon, has been leading Sunday morning trail rides leaving from the Agricultural Hall for many years. He works at a local shop and has been a tireless advocate for bicycling on the island. Lots of NEMBA folks connect with the Sunday rides when they're on the island. Call David anytime at 508-693-4905 and he'll be happy to talk.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm convinced that the mtb definitely comes with me, and the road bike spends vacation at home. :)
