Hi. Looking for a solid tattoo artist in New England. I've received some recommendations from friends of a few in NYC, but I'd like to stay local if possible. Can you recommend someone? If possible, a link to their portfolio would be great as well.

Thanks in advance.

I think it really depends on what type of tattoo you are looking to get; new school, traditional, portrait, etc.

I have had great experiences and recommend both of these shops:

Tattoo Junkies (http://tatjunkies.com/splash.html) in Portsmouth NH - Shaun, Erik and Stina are awesome artists.

Sanctuary Tattoo (http://www.sanctuarytattoo.com/) in Portland ME, great crew of artists there.
Chris Dingwell does amazing portrait work.

thanks everyone. what i am looking for is slightly cliched, but there's a good story behind it. i'm looking for a bike chain design to wrap around my wrist. when i got engaged, my wife gave me a bike chain bracelet as a gift (SRAM chain). i used to wear it all the time, but it got a bit cumbersome as i travel a lot and it was a bit awkward when shaking people's hands. i figure a tattoo (in black, grey) will be a good memento.

i'll start inquiring with some of the above recommendations.

I have seen some work Stina @ tattoo junkies has done and it was very nice work. Most people in my circle with ink go to her.... Very nice work!!

Saturday, June 28th was the big day. I always said to myself that if I could ever figure out a good tattoo design, I'd get it. Way back in 2003, when my wife was my fiancé, she gave me a wonderful gift of a bike chain bracelet as an engagement present. I joked that I gave her a diamond ring, and I got a bike chain. I was actually floored. It was a great present. I wore it wherever I could, but after time, the clasp broke, and I would lose it occasionally. So I stopped wearing it, and it hung out on top of my bureau. This tattoo represents that bike chain (http://www.sram.com/en/srammountain/chains/7651speed/pc10.php). My wife and I were chatting while on a spring road ride, and it made perfect sense. Regardless of how often I am road riding, mtn biking or downhilling, I'll always be on a bike for the rest of my life. I've raced, traveled, had countless adventures near and far, and enjoyed quality time with friends and family, furry or otherwise. So a bike chain made perfect sense.

The slideshow below represents about 90 minutes of exceptional artistry. Many thanks to Stina atTattoo Junkies (http://tatjunkies.com/splash.html). It should be fully healed and ready to rock and roll in two weeks. Until then, I've made the sacrifice of not being able to surf as it can get wet but can't get soaked.

Some things that I learned during this first experience:
1. Referrals are everything.
2. It takes about two-three weeks for a tattoo to heal
3. You can get the tattoo wet but you can't soak it during the said two to three weeks.
4. It's truly art.
5. It does hurt, especially on the tender underside or around the bone, but it's not as bad as I thought.
6. Make sure to tip well.
7. Don't be late.
8. Tattoos can be addictive.

Nice!

Your chain is WAY better than mine.

They are addictive, 12 and counting....
