Looking to get your young son/daughter into BMX racing (there are numerous organized tracks in MA and CT) as a warm-up for mountain biking when they're older? Here's a bike to help make that happen. The bike brand is FMF, "mini" size which is typically good for a 4-7 year old. FMF is a leading manufacturer of high-end BMX racing frames and components.
FMF used to sell "race ready" package bikes (this one used to retail new for $329.99), but has since refocused their efforts on the frames and components. See their website here: www.fmfbmx.com (http://www.fmfbmx.com).
Here are the bike specs:
Frame: FMF 7005 Aluminum Plain Gauge w/CNC Dropouts
Fork: FMF Full Chromoly with 1" Threadless Steerer Tube Aero-bladed Fork
Bottom Bracket: FMF Sealed Cartridge Bearing ISIS Axle
Crank: FMF Forged Alloy 3-Piece
Chainring: FMF Alloy CNC-Machined
Chain: KMC Z 30 - 1/2" x 3/32" Black/Silver
Rear Brake: Tektro V-brake
Hubset:FMF Sealed Cartridge Bearing Flip/Flop 28H Black
Freewheel: FMF Chromoly
Rims: FMF Alloy Double-Wall W/CNC Sides Black
Tire Set: IRC Siren 20" x 1 3/8"
Spokes/Nipples: 14G Stainless Black
Chain Tensioners: FMF Chromoly
Headset: Threadless Sealed 1" Black
Handlebars: FMF Alloy 1-Pc Bar with 2" Rise Black
Stem: FMF Alloy Threadless Black
Grips: FMF 909 Full Waffle Black
Pedals: FMF Alloy Mini Black
Saddle: FMF Micro Unisaddle Padded
Seat Post: FMF Alloy w/Seat 22.2mm Black
Seat Clamp: FMF Alloy Black
Pad Set: FMF 2-Piece Set
Bike is in great condition, some minor scratches on the paint. My son used the bike for 1 racing season. We had great fun with the sport, but have decided to focus on other activities (including Mtb of course). I actually had the same bike but the "cruiser" model with 24" wheels...and raced with other dads in the over 35 age group. It was a very fun, family-oriented activity.
Asking low $200's, but will consider all offers. Willing to include kid's full face helmet and spare chainring in for free. I also have some kids protective gear I could sell (chest, knee/shin, and arm/elbow protectors).
