I saw an endorsement of a pocket chainsaw:

on Crankfire:

I think I'm going to order one and was thinking that maybe I can put together a bulk order for anyone who'd like one from NEMBA. So let me know if you'd be interested and I call them to see if we can get some kind of deal.

I was actually looking at those not so long ago. I'd be interested in any type of deal that might be had.

I haven't called them yet, but a question for you guys who need receipts - would a receipt from me work (I can mock something up) or do you need something from a "real" company? It looks like this company sells them in groups of 12, so I doubt I will be able to get them to invoice for anything below that.

Ok, here's the deal:
Based on the above responses it looks like we've got an order for 24 saws in the bag (or close enough that I would be willing to take the chance). I talked to the supplier and he sells in blocks of 12 only.
Based on 24 saws he could sell them to us for $21.00 including shipping to my house (retail is $25 +shipping). If we could get 48 saws we could get free shipping, but that's essentially only a dollar per saw. I could probably split the shipment to two different addresses so one box of saws comes to my house and one goes to someone further north so we could avoid re-shipping fees. I go up to Cambridge often enough that I could definitely meet up with some of the Boston area folks (or we could meet for a RIDE!). If you want me to ship a saw individually to you, it will cost extra - I would assume $5 or so.
So the only thing I need to know is for the couple of people who need receipts - will a receipt from me suffice? If so, I can include your count in the order, and for everyone else, now that you know the price does anyone want out (or do more people want in)? I'll post up a final list later in the week. Unless you state otherwise, I'll assume you are still in if you posted up already.
I'd expect to receive payment from you via Paypal, check or cash - I'll post up more details on that later down the road.

update:
I contacted the folks at the link AA provided above. They'll do a bulk shipment, but it just saves shipping costs, the cost of the saw is the same regardless of how many I order. So at this point I see no point in doing a bulk order. If you want one I'd suggest ordering from the above link since it seems to be cheapest price out there.
John (thanks for ruining it AA :-D)

hell I ordered one just now. don't need handles, just use sticks. it'll be nicer to carry this instead of a hatchet. but I do love using a hatchet, especially on huge trees. this chain seems like less work. bummer.
ALSO interesting...I was looking at other stuff, ya know, for bush cutting.
on all of planet earth, they need this disclaimer
for machetes.
Machetes CANNOT BE SOLD IN: Chelsea,MA, Everett, MA, Lynn, MA, & Revere MA.

what day is today, and when did I order this ?
I just got it now, and it is a pretty good size saw and freakin SHARP !
it goes right in my camelbak where I will always have it. blowdowns have no chance
now. I will rip them all out when I run into them (if they are stupid...I will leave ones
that enhance the riding, or are legacy blowdowns)
can't believe how fast I got this. 2 days.
I ordered it from AA's link

I just used it on a 9 inch diameter solid oak blowdown.
it is the real deal
2 minutes of sweat...done. log be gone
I mean holy crap, if you put some effort into it, it blasts through oak.
not bad for a 6 oz pocket device.

Wow - nice. I was wondering how it would work on hard wood. Gotta get my order in.

I did have to work hard to speed things up.
I went easy at first and it was cutting, but took a while.
I remembered something I read on the 'tubes and it said put some real force into
the pulling and it will cut 5x faster.
so I really pulled hard, and boy it created a pile of sawdust and cut that
thing fast.
hard effort = fast results

Careful though. After a while your arms will get burnt and it will be difficult to even move at all. Its an odd sensation but must be an awesome workout.
that is why I made only one cut,
and then heaved a 30 foot section of tree to the side,
rather than make 2 cuts...
I was beat. bending over and cutting by pulling
up burns the back of the legs as well.
it works. but you would not want to use this to cut firewood.
it is a survival saw. does the job in a pinch
yes it took only 2 minutes but I was maxed out for those 2 mins

Maybe I'm a wimp, but my back gave out before I could get all the way through a 14" log. Bending over that thing can only be done for so long.
