Looking for anyone who knows the "Otis" trails off 151, I'm trying to get a group together from up North of Boston to go down. Planning on riding january 5th, around 10:30am for a few hours with a cookout/in (depending on the weather) at my home in north falmouth about 2 miles away. We are all intermediate riders.

Will cancel if rain or snow but right now the long range forecasts looks good.

Let me know if anyone can lead us, it's worth all the food and drink you want after!

best way to contact me is at sdipietro@deloitte.com

Hey sdipietro (sdipietro@deloitte.com)
Are you from the NSC ?
I MTB with Jim White occassionally.
I am planning a trip to Otis during the week?
Are you a weekend rider only?
I ight look at my schedule to see if the 5th is possible.
I've only ridden Otis twice, but it is great.

I was just trying to organize a few folks for an Otis outing tomorrow also when one of my email recipients responded that he couldn't make it because he was going hunting. That raised the obvious question...is hunting allowed at Otis tomorrow?

Check Here (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/regulations/plain_language/hunting_fox.htm) for hunting seasons in Mass.

If I'm reading it correctly it seems to be open season for crow, fox, coyote and bobcat.

While I can't imagine the woods being overrun with crow hunters etc, it's probably never a bad idea to throw on some sort of blaze orange.

I may ride Otis tomorrow myself. Definitely Sunday the 6th, at around 10:00 am.

There's a group of us coming down on Sunday. Normally we'd check the bourne rotary camera to get an idea of the conditions but it seems to have stopped loading pictures on Sunday. We've heard that there has been some snow down there this week, one report said 3-4". What's it like in the woods today?

Nope...no snow at Otis. I rode there 3 days ago and the trails are bare. It rained Tuesday afternoon but never turned to snow.

Should be awesome this weekend. The temps are supposed to be in the high 40's w/no rain.

I would like to get down there on Sunday. Is there a good chance the ground will get real squishy, with the warm weather?

I think it's going to be good. (this is just an opinion of course so take it for what its worth.)

The soil there is just sandy enough so that the trails drain really well.

So I'm guessing that even with the freeze of the last 3 days followed by the upcoming weekend thaw wont present much of a problem.

There may be some low area's that get a little soft, but i'm betting that 99% will be good to go.

Sounds like there will be a lot of peeps riding Sunday.

I'll be the really slow one on a blue Marin. ;o)

Thanks chqm8.

If anyone is out there tomorrow (after it warms up) please report back on the ground conditions. Two hours is a long drive for mud. ;) Thanks!

Anyone going on saturday morning, could I tag along? I have never been to Otis and would like to learn the trails a bit. Where is the meeting place?

You can PM me if you want.

Thanks
-Mike

Where does everyone park off of 151? I'd come down 28 - left on 151 then presumably the lot is on the left? I may make it down, not 100% sure. I rode Burlingame in RI this afternoon and it was a weez fest due to a nasty headcold I've got. Lots of fun but hurtin' for certain.

mud on cape cod? The cape is good for the reason that the soil 90% sand. Drains fast. It will be dry. I'll be down there on sunday.

Me and a buddy will be meeting at the TDBankNorth on the corner of Rt. 28 and Barlows Landing Rd at 9am tomorrow. Word of warning...my first ride there was last weekend and I have no idea where I'm going. Also, my buddy is a newbie so it will be a somewhat leisurely pace. All are welcome if this fits your schedule/pace. We could use a navigator :-)

I'll report back with conditions tomorrow.

I might be able to make it down tomorrow. I live a little farther out on the Cape and we got enough snow here to mess things up. Hopefully Otis is clear. I've only ridden there once as well. I'll be in a grey Accord, Kona Unit s/s if I make it.

Rode this morning at Otis...not a flake of snow to be found and not wet at all. Great conditions.

Thanks Eammon - put me down as a definite maybe (ie don't wait up if I'm not there on time).

Great to meet up with you guys ( I joined the group partway through the ride), Otis turned out to be a nice place to ride, better than I had expected.
