I'm looking to get back into biking after a 4 year or so hiatus. I have my old, old school proflex 756 which is severly beaten. I use to have the original Specialized P3, which I sold soon after scaring the bejesus out of myself on some gnarly drops, realizing serious injury was imminent.

Now I'm back into riding, and would like to be able to tackle some singletrack for about 3hr rides, nothing too crazy paced. But I don't want to be bobbing up and down on a bike like a yo-yo for 3 hours.

Aaaaaand I'd like to be able to take that same bike to lynn woods and maybe tackle some 6-8footers if possible, and if the bike can't handle it I'll probably keep it to about 4-5 footers.

Ideally I'd like to spend $1500+/-, and I'm seriously eyeballing either the '07 Prophet 6 or 5 for the money. My only concern is that lefty fork and drops. I saw some 5 second clips on YouTube of clowns doing some 5foot drops with the lefty fork with no apparent problems, but no where in the 5 second clip does it show the guy working on his bike during the week either so who knows what the aftermath is.

Anyone with any lefty advice would be appreciated, or if you recommend something else thats cool too. Thanks

the prophet is right on the mark for travel but I would go for the mx if anything especially if your going to freeride w/ the bike. It will be a stiffer frame w/ the thru axle etc.. Dont know much about the lefty but if it was me I would be looking for a fork w/ two stantions not 1. Fox 36 or a 66. Both are nice forks.

Solid info, I appreciate the replies. The guys over at Pinkbike with their experiences are swaying me away from the lefty for anything drop-related. Now I'm considering just dropping the loot on a '08 Giant Reign 2, and hopefully not have to worry about equimpent failure on drops

the reign is a solid choice for an allrounder. Alot of guys over on bustedspoke ride that bike so you can get some rider feedback from them.
