I took a ride down the Minute Man Trail and "wondered" into Harvard Square. While there I "wondered" onto Memorial Drive only to discover that it was closed to motor vehicle traffic from Western Ave to whatever the other street was. This was very surprising, to say the least. Does anybody else know about this? What's the story here and how often does this happen?

Every Sunday for a really long time it has been closed to cars. Many years. Ican't be more specific.

It closes every sunday from April thru November...been that way forever or at least for the past 30 years or so.

They turn it into a "Linear Park" every Sunday for skating, biking, walking, whatever you got.

WOW! Thanks for the info about Memorial Drive in Cambridge. But then today, I made another discovery while riding around in Newbury-Port. I had no idea that there were bike lanes on both sides of the road to Plum Island beach in Newbury-Port. When did this pleasant surprise happen?

what, do we have to tell you everything?

:p

(answer: I don't know, but if no one else does and you're dying to know, I'll ping my friend in NBPT)

YEP! I know. Actally, I do get out a lot, but so much changes before I get a chance to get back and see what has actually happenned. I haven't done Newbury-Port on bike in a few years because I was elsewhere.
Don't be too surprised at my clulessness. Many times, I am the last to know.
