Seriously, I just picked up another Project underground... On Ebay for ~ 180 bucks. What are the 12 steps to breaking addiction to bass boat paintjobs??? Someone hit me or something when you see me at NF. ;)

Nah, well maybe... but it'll probably just be wall art until I get the bug to build it over the winter. I have everything to build it as a SS minus a HS right now. I'm debating just selling the 1x1 and having the PU be my 26" bike.
On a side note I put my Waltworks on MTBR for $700 complete, got a ton of emails and not one buyer.. I did get one ludicrously low ball offer today that was quickly denied. I don't really want to part with the WW but now that I have the Kula, the KM and the 1x1 it seems silly to have 4 MTBs.

I'm surprised your WW hasn't sold yet. If you decide it best to part her out, send me a PM.

I was thinking the opposite - it seems silly to have only 4 MTBs...

Thanks, John!
I was contemplating what my next mtb bike selection (3 mtb's & 1 roadie) would be, and as I perused this thread, began to feel like I too should own up to my addiction....Well not now...
I can ride like H3LL, and I'm NOT going to stop buying more!!!

Questions for the Schwinn "addicts". I'm looking into buying a used hardtail Homegrown to race XC with. '98 to '02 seem to be the "good" years. As Schwinn experts, do you think 1. Good or bad idea. I'm in no rush right now, so 2. Do you think I should be looking for something specific as far as price, etc. 3. The few that are out there on ebay/craigslist are 19". At 5'8", is a 19too large, and 17" probably what I need? Finally, any other suggstions?

At 5'8" for XC racing I'd say a 17" would be golden. Just my two cents. bdee would be far more knowledgeable than me.

1. Great idea
2. Don't pay too much ;) Seriously frames should go for no more than $300 unless mint and it's a Factory (Yeti). They stopped being Yeti built after 2000 I believe.
3. I'd go with a 17" - they are measured C-T center of the BB to the top of the Seat Tube. A lot of sellers don't measure right. Keep in mind they slightly have shorter top tubes than some of the newer breed of 26 and 29ers out there today.
Great bike for racing, the frames are fairly comofrtable as far as alu hardtails go (some of thst is due to the 26.8 seatpost and the amount of post you'll run above the clamp on a properly sized frame).

MMcG and BDee, thanks for the thoughts. BDee, what would be the significant differences between a Yeti-built and something from 2001-02?

I can't recall who made the "enlightened" frames for Schwinn - maybe Control Tech?? They were US made frames and of extremely high quality. Yeti broke free from Schwinn ~ 2000. The newer frames are lighter and feature the ICBM integrated headset. The older frames are a lot cooler looking IMHO but either way you can't go wrong.

I like my 'new' schwinn (http://gunnarbikes.com/rockhound.php). Got to talk to Richard Schwinn himself when I ordered it. :)

Picked this up off of Boston Craigslist two weeks ago. I still need to upgrade a few things, but it's already a great ride. BTW, if anyone can recognize what year this Homegrown is, let me know. I can't make out the entire serial number on the rear dropout. The frame is not rear disc compatable and it's all XT, so I'm guessing '98-'99.

I think it's this one - sans decals:
