Was riding in Borderland and fell off a couple foot rock ledge, landed on my wrist. It swelled up and bruised, along with alot of pain, so I went to get X-rays at an orthopedic doctor. He said it was most likely a fracture of the Scaphiod bone, along the fractures can take some time to show up on the X-rays. I have a cast on it now, and am going back on friday for follow up scans.
Best case is just a bad sprain, and i'll have no cast but have to take it easy for a few weeks. Worst case is 12weeks-6 months in cast, or a screw to hold the bone together.
All this happens but a few days after my first race, when I was really looking foward to the last race at Nemba fest, bummer. Guess I'll just have to hit the gym instead of the trails for awhile.

That sounds bad, and painful. I would take 4-500 mgs of ibuprofen 3 times a day for 1 to 2 weeks, and apply heat 2 or 3 times a day if possible as well. Also if you have a trainer or rollers riding an hour every day or so could help the healing by increasing heart rate and therefore blood flow.

Jumping on a fixed trainer will also keep your legs in shape for your return to riding. After shattering my Scapula, I had my trainer setup the next day. Same with my left shoulder AC from 66 Finals at Mt Snow and the broken wrist from Day One at Lynn Woods. Get someone to lend you some great MTB vids.....even roadie TDF vids......Yikes!

Sorry to hear of the injury, that's no fun. My own Borderland experience a couple years ago lasted about 10 minutes before I endoed and thought I broke my thumb (but did not). Worse was the disappointment, as I was so psyched to ride there.
