View Full Version : nembafest a secret?

Not to be a jerk, but why is there almost no mention of nembafest on the website and forums?

It's not listed under "Nemba Events" either from the website nor the forum of the same name. I am a member so I got the September Singletracks, where it is prominently advertized, but I was surprised at the lack of exposure here.

Is it a conscious decision to keep non members from poaching, or to focus on August for now? There doesn't seem to be much time to push it once September does get here. Isn't it a good way to get new members?

Hey there Wannabee,

Surprised to hear that the PR has been low-key. It's been on the homepage for a long time now, and I've been including it's promotion in the e-News and the weekly events emails.

If you want to help spread the word, download the flyer and put it up in your local shop:

Download the Event Flyer (http://www.mtbadventureseries.org/mtbadventure/documents/NEMBAfest2007Poster.pdf)

Here's some of the stuff happening!

Looks like I scanned right past it on the homepage. I saw "Kona..." and kept going. My apaologies. Gotta give the Sponors Top Billing.

Still surprised not to see it listed under "Festivals/Fun Events " in "Nemba Events" from the homepage, and no mention in Nemba Events Forum.

I don't usually read the weekly email. My comments were not about PR being low key, mostly that I couldn't find it on the website/forum where I thought it would be.

MTV generation you see. Thanks for the quick reply.

FWIW I just posted it on the DirtRag Board, MTBR (CT,RI and MA) and our rinemba site. I'll bump them as the day gets closer.

Just for future reference, you may want to make it a point to first check the home page for events. When I was new to NEMBA, I discovered that upcoming events tend to appear quite ahead of schedule on the "front page"......OOOOpppsss! Sorry.... The home page. To this day, that is still how I usually get first word of something coming up.
BTW, speaking of NEMBAfest, last years NEMBAfest 2006 was fantastic despite that it initially had to be reschedueled due to untimely flooding. Let's hope and pray to GOD that such incidents are very rare. If possible, do not miss NEMBAfest 2007. See you out on the trail.

The 'Original' Wannabee reporting in, NOT Aging Wannabee, but maybe after the ride at wompy he'll feel like an 'aging' wannabee.
As a FOW member, I thought that I'd take a leisurely ride out and see what the beginning of the Landmine race course was like. Well, we've grown some more rocks and roots, natural water bars, briars, low branches, poison ivy, etc., etc. And that's only in the first 2 miles.
Trails have been cut back, but over several weeks ,they've filled in again. Members of the friends group will be re-riding and trimming all trails associated with the Nembafest right up 'til Nembafest. One section still has to be cleared, due to several large trees being taken down and may have to be re-routed.
Plans are progressing for a historical event on our end.
Blame the Dog is foaming at the mouth, and will be racing (riding) the race on Sunday. The large field is cut and is bigger than last year. Plans for additional parking are being worked on.
Help us spread the word. There are only a few of us over here at Wompy, and DCR is helping out as much as they can with all the other stuff that is going on. PK has a full plate.
FOW has posted in several 'racing' sights information about the Landmine race, with info about Nembafest on Saturday.
So aging Wannabee, you're not as old as I feel tonite, after my rock and root ride today. Bengay, here I come!

Word is that there will be a FOOD concession to benefit Friends of Wompatuck......and the FOW is extending the menu to include coffee and breakfast-type foods, for earlier in the day.......
Word.

AND, while I'm here, I'll put in the plug for VOLUNTEERS, for anytime over the entire weekend. Post here or pm me and I'll see to it you get on the schedule, and get in for free of course, and I think there's a chance at a sweet raffle prize or two for registered volunteers.........

I'm sorry Wannabee, but I've been "Aging Wannabee" over on Ragemtb.com since 2002. So I retain my own "original" status. I'm the "Original Aging Wannabee". When I saw you show up here on Nemba, when I was a young "Truckboy" I actually thought you stole my name from Rage. You had the same quirky spelling and everything.

I never would have even created a new profile if not for being away from biking for an extended convalescence during which time Nemba changed the software or got hacked and my old persona was hosed.

That being said, I do believe there is room for both of us, Perhaps even a "Young Wannabee" or "30something Wannabee" or "Black Jesus Wannabee".

OK - Back to Nembafest -

Steve, I will see how I can volunteer and PM you - unless there's someone else in charge of volunteers.

No problem, AG. PK might even accept your AARP card at the gate for a discount.
I took a ride on the marathon trail, today. Well, more like I walked part of the marathon trail. Two days and I've gone thru 2 bikes (mechanicals). The courses have taken their toll, already. Thank goodness the weekend is here. Full rebuilds await.
The beginner's loop is fast and furious, hard and dusty, with a couple of 'bike on shoulder' climbs.
Both courses have tricky intersections, go right, go straight, go left, go up, go down. There will be warning tape gallore, in addition to race arrows. Marshals will dot the landscape at road crossings.
It's a LONG walk from the farthest away course point back to the south field.
Please, don't run over the 'volunteer' workers when you're out checking the course this weekend, especially on Sunday.

Thanks.

Speaking of NEMBAfest being a secret which it never was; something just dawned on me. Judging from people that I came in contact with, it sounds like we may have some newcomers to this event. If the town of Hingham doesn't mind, some extra (and prominent) signage directing first timers to the event might be helpful. Last year was my first time to Wompatok and I had to figure it out a little bit. So maybe some extra signage might be helpful this year. This is just a suggestion.

Good point Dave. I will pass it on and see what can be done, maybe with a sign at 228 and High(Free st.?) street. Signage within the park should be good, anyways..........

I have to confess that we had a H3LL of a time finding the park last year.

Checked today and the Wompatuck State Park signs are still on Rt. 228. One just before Free Street, take a right on Free Street, you run right into the Park's new DCR sign at Union St.
The sign coming from the other side (Rt. 3A) of Rt. 228 is still there, but I must admit, the town hasn't trimmed that branch infront of it yet. It's partially hidden. That might even be a state resposibility. Take a left to the front gate.
I believe there are additional signs at both Free Street and Middle Street that show the way to Wompatuck.
If you get turned around, the Wompatuck Campground can be reached at 781-749-7160. They're about 1/2 mile from the south field, right on the main road.

Now, getting out of Wompatuck is another story, but why would you want to leave?

Actually, getting out of Wampatuck is SOOOO much easier since they finally installed traffic lights at the intersection of Main St. and 228. No more waiting 20 minutes for a break in traffic in order to take a left off of Union.

This will be the first weekend since June that we will be in town so I plan on making it to this event. Who else is going?

I'll be there, probably racing Sunday as well. We marked approx. 1/2 the sport/expert/pro loop yesterday morning, links together some of the best stuff in the park. This loop will also be used for the intermediate rec. ride on Saturday I believe. Fingers crossed for good weather!

Free and Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham has the lights.
Now,I'm all confused.

Damn going to maine for snowmobile trail work... I wanted to go to this. What a kick in the junk. I guess winter hobby eventually has to clash with every other season hobby eventually.

Those traffic lights prevent a lot of headaches. I have driven through that intersection several times.

SteveC:
If you still need me to do so, I'll be very happy to help out with the kids ride something like that is happenning. I sent you a PM about that earlier.

Judging from the weather forcast, I'm wondering if some sprinklers should be set up for people to ride through and cool down?

Sorry, Main St. and 228 is correct. It was a Freudian typo.

Water sprinklers might be a good idea, but with the south field so far away from a water source, it would be next to impossible. No plumbing available in the area.
And before SteveC suggests it, NO, my 'big red truck' is not available.
