Hi,

I live in England but I'm coming over to Boston for work in October and I want to buy some stuff for my bike (it's loads cheaper in the US cos the UK is a rip off!).

Anyway, does anyone know any good stores in Boston? I specifically want to get some DMR v12 pedals or some gusset slim jims.

thanks!

just 4 miles north of boston in medford is a store that specializes in mtb and bmx...

JRA Cycles (www.jracycles.com)

if you email the owner, brian (brian@jracycles.com), before you get here, he may be able to help you out.

then when you get in town, join us for a couple rides at the fells...

I second JRA but without a car it is a touch hard to get to. Tons of shops around Boston, some on or near public transportation and all within riding distance of Boston (JRA is also very close to the Fells for some of the closest riding to Boston!).

Another favorite of mine is Belmont Wheelworks.

I don't recognize the parts you need, so it's hard to know what kind of place you want, but....

I think these are all accessible via "T" (underground).

I like to use JRA for serious MTB stuff, because I get great service from Brian and they specialize in MTB/BMX, Paramount bycicle repair for more general, again for great service from Tyler, who has a more "commuter/courier" clientelle, and Ace or Belmont Wheelworks in a pinch because they're close. The small shops will treat you better, but the chains will have a bigger inventory.

If you're stuck downtown, I'd take the Green line (B?) up Comm ave to International Bycicle, or Landry's new store across from BU's new hockey rink. Both are Mass. chains. Or Take the red line past Harvard to Davis Sq. and ask where Ace Wheelworks is. I think the downtown stores are probably good, but pricey.

There is no shortage of experienced bike people around Boston. Maybe send some of these places email to get a fell for the right one.

Just happened across the DMR V12 Mag pedals at JensonUSA.com. $89.95. Don't know if that helps but I am guessing that IF you could find those in a local shop, they would probably be more expensive. Still wondering what the Slim Jims are. :)
