Hey all,

I'll be down in Griswold, CT tomorrow (at the in-laws') and I'll have my road bike and a morning and afternoon to kill.

I was thinking about going down 201 to Mystic, though its certainly sketchy going south out of Griswold towards North Stonington. (I'm an Old Lyme native transplanted to Boston, so I am pretty familiar with the area, just I never had a road bike when I lived in CT.) Anyone have any favorite road routes? My wife will be at a beach in RI and I was thinking of riding there, but I've never done 60mi on one ride before (have done 30 and felt like I could have doubled it, though)… usually if I have that kinda time I'd plan a dirt ride.

As a side note, does anyone ride (dirt) in Pachaug Forest? The In-laws live right near the 201 entrance to the forest. I can't find any decent maps of trails, and the one they have on the state site are weak.

[The reason I'm planning a road ride is that I'll be riding solo, with start and finish times TBD, and when I ride dirt (the preferred activity of course) I prefer to ride with others. Road just seems easier this trip…]

Thanks for the local tips!

Can't help with road routes in that part of CT, but as far as Pachaug goes I rarely hear of rides going on. I do know that it borders Arcadia though, and there's often rides there on the weekend. There's one Sun. at 9 am.
You can find out more about it on the RINEMBA.org site.

ONe of the guys in my bike group turned me onto this website a few weeks back: www.routeslip.com Basically you can click on what state your in, what town your in and it will pop up different routes (mileage and elevation) sent in by different users. You can also create your own routes as well. FYI if you are getting a "Loading Map" message that seems to last to long hit your refresh button and it will usually clear. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip on routeslip. Seems like it could become a nice resource.

I made my own route and will probably upload it there. (201-2-184-49-138-201)

Funny thing is a group ride just passed my in-laws house this morning!
