I guess I can see the use for tubeless on the road. Having spent many years riding tubular tires prior to the light weight clincher revolution (and my departure from racing), I came to love the feel of a good silk tire. The flexibility of the sidewall was so much more comfortable. If you remove the inner tube from the mix you have to be getting closer to that feel. I understand it is the tube against the tire that is largley responsible for the lack of "feel" with many of today's tires.
On the other hand most of my flats ont he road come from glass and not pinches. Adding goop to a tire isn't going to help the weight issue.
