Hey all....my name was "girlygirl" but the login would not take so changed it to bikerchic...ha ha

I am leaving on April 27th - taking a solo trip (which is HUGE for me...I am such a super chick about being by myself), flying to Denver, renting a car and driving down to Fruita (fat tire festival :) then going to Moab for a few days, signed up with escape adventures for a 3 day bike trip. After Moab I have a good week of exploring.

So I would love some advice....I am sure some of you have been to Fruita or Moab? Plus any hidden spots that I should visit. I am not bringing my bike....renting in Fruita and Moab, the cost was less than if I shipped my bike and/or brought it on the plane....plus I was a little weary, love my bike and didn't want it to get damaged.

So excited to go....looking forward to hearing some feedback from people who have gone.....

Have fun, a lot of the rides that I like to in CO will still be under considerable snow pack at the end of this month.

Fruita - Joe's Ridge, Moore Fun, Horse Theif's Bench are all fun. Some of the loops get sandy and boring.

Moab - #1 is Porqupine Rim (enjoy, the views from the top are amazing, kind of like riding in the Grand Canyon)

View in Moab are much better but overall I liked the riding in Fruita more.

Have fun!

I took the family out to both Moab and Fruita. Both excellent trips. I didn't get to do too many really serious rides but a couple of suggestions (google is your friend, sorry I don't have links):

- Go to Arches Nat'l Park in Moab - unbelievable, no biking allowed, but amazing hiking.

- If you have some time, drive down to St. George/Zion area and ride at Gooseberry and/or Little Creek Mesa. Best riding I've done. Scenic, amazing. Call Mountain Bike Buddies in St. George for a guide - very nice guy. Hike Angel's Landing in Zion - you have to do that hike once in your life.

- Stop by Goblin State park and hike Little Horse Canyon in Southern UT - Slot canyons are cool.

- In Fruita definitely ride the Bookcliffs area - do Kissell Run twice - once for you, once for me. Chutes and Ladders - Zippety Doo Dah, all great trails.

I'll echo what was said above - Moab is better for the views, Fruita better for the riding. St. George has both at the same time.

Enjoy - I'm extremely jealous.

thanks for the feedback....any ideas on places to stay around Fruita or Moab? done any rafting?

I am very concerned that I will not be able to keep up with the group in Moab BUT as long as I am committed to having fun maybe they won't mind a slow person in the group :)

Fruita is having a "Fat Tire Festival" so hoping to check it out....plus Fat Tire Beer will be on tap :)

Keep the advice coming.....do you have any pics that you can post?

I could be considered a local expert on MOAB, having taken every vacation for about 15 consecutive years going to that area, DURANGO has always been a days side trip to. You can ride MOAB in the AM and Durango in the afternoon. Its cooler up there!

One good hint on the trail:
Find and ride the PRACTICE loop on the Slick Rock trail, RIDE IT TWICE only stopping when you must, this will represent about HALF the distance of the MAIN trail and about half the difficulty!!!

DONT BONK!
I have seen a ton of riders go nuts on the first two days, not being able to get back on for the third....just pace, you will do fine!

Eddy Mcstiff, great pizzas and micro brew, not a bad place to Hang!

MUST SEE:
http://www.discovermoab.com/biking.htm

The Down Hill course, its located on the Mesa, accross the river and behind McDonalds...has a chair-lift to get you to the top of the mesa, IT HAS GREAT XC riding up there as well as the FREAKY DH course! MUST SEE!!

ELBOW PADS!!!
Believe me when I say your going to fall on the rocks! Its all part of the game up there! ELBOW pads will keep you from ruining the trip with a damaged limb!!!
(Knees dont seem to take as much of a beating)

FULL FINGERED GLOVES:
The rocks eats FLESH!!! Keep yer digits in good condition!

have fun & I am with you in my dreams, so I am not jealous...:P

Yes, all of the above is good info also! But, when I go to MOAB, I go for the rocks and a guide to back-country secrets...only the locals really know them all!

O, one more thing, ASK someone local about the swimming hole! Its on the edge of town, North end if I remember correctly....very nice natural place to rinse of the dust!

PM me for anything YOU WISH!

I rented a Titus Racer X at Poison Spider in Moab.
No hassels...all arranged over the phone.http://www.poisonspiderbicycles.com/images_main/psb_petro_bckgr.jpg

We all stayed at the Red Rock right off the main drag downtown....decent.
