Advise talking to land managers

I'm in the process of establishing communications with city officials about doing trail work. Does anyone have advise they could give me? I've already explained that the trails would have minimal environmental impact. I've thought about outlining the possible routes but I don't want to seem like I'm planning too far ahead.

Offer free labor on their exsisting trails/projects to help get your foot in the door.
Read the Link that Husqvarna posted and get your local chapter involved and there with you to support and answer any questions.
